WHAT IS THE
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) DIVISION?A description of the business units can be found at:Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas:Information Technology.The following are the duties of this position at the full working level.As a senior expert and consultant to top agency management officials, the employee advises on integrating IT programs with other business programs of equivalent complexity within the IRS. Work includes the development of new theories, concepts, principles, standards, and methods, as well as appropriate application of commercial best practices in data management.The employee is responsible for advising other IT experts throughout Treasury and the IRS and in other agencies on a variety of situations and issues that involve applying or adapting new theories, concepts, principles, standards, methods, or practices that are developed by the employee or result from the employee's leadership.Work requires ensuring the integration of IT programs and services; developing solutions to integration/interoperability issues; designing, developing, and managing IT security that meet current and future business requirements.Work also involves applying or extending, enhancing, or optimizing the existing architecture; managing assigned projects; communicating complex technical requirements to non-technical personnel and preparing and presenting briefings to senior management officials on complex/controversial issues.Such work assignments include leading IT systems development projects from design to support, evaluating the effectiveness of installed systems and services and providing advice on and devising solutions to a wide range of IT issues.This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-05, but if the position has career progression to GS-11, then you may move from a GS-05 to a GS-11 in as little as three years.Requirements
