INTRODUCTION
The Timber Sales Forester will be responsible for protecting the natural resources of the Spokane Reservation during all phases of timber sales administration while ensuring compliance with timber sales contracts and permit provisions. Ensure that the tribe and individual landowners are fully compensated for the products harvested through accurate record-keeping of timber sales activities, and conduct prompt and responsive communications with the Spokane Tribe, Local Mills, Timber Purchaser and individual landowners.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the implementation of the Forest Management plan Timber Sales section.Responsible for ensuring logging operations comply with the provisions of the timber sale contract and monitoring the progress of sale activities.Inspecting operations for contract compliance.Preparing weekly, quarterly & annual progress reports of sale activities.Daily communication with Purchaser, subcontractors and/or their representative.Daily communication with Timber sale Administration and Accounting.Verifying where wood products from the sale(s) are being delivered.Ensuring all loads leaving the sale area are properly ticketed and identified.Monitoring road and ground conditions.Recording merchantable material that was not removed, informing the Purchaser, submit waste scale to accountant.Document as needed changes in the harvest area.Ensuring protection of known cultural sites and identification of un-recorded sites.Ensuring protection of property lines, monuments and corners.Must keep up regular communication with loggers, mills, and the purchaser to ensure that loads are scaled promptly, and accountability is assured. When problems arise, the appropriate people must be advised without delay.Work with the Forest Development Program to coordinate site preparation and reforestation needs.Implementing Appendix 3 of the Forest Management Plan to ensure the Timber Sale Officers responsibilities are being met.Assist with scaling logs at the mills as needed.Assist with Pre-sales activities as time allows.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Familiar with Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 25, part 163 and in the Indian Affairs Manual (IAM) 53 chapters 3 and 4.Strong GIS backgroundGPS application in ForestryStrong verbal and written communication skills.Log Scaling techniques.Familiar with local tree species.Must be able to demonstrate good organizational skills.Must be able to compile, maintain, and analyze reports and field data.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Forest Management, Forest Ecology or related and 2 years of Forestry related experience, or associate's degree in forestry, Forest Management, Forest Ecology or related and 5 years of forestry supervisory/ management experience or 10 years of forestry supervisory/ management experience.Valid Driver's License and a good driving record for insurance purposes.Production Scaler qualified (1 year to complete)Wildland fire qualified red card (1 year to complete)Check scaler qualified preferred
