See Benefits and Perks at TCEQ.YOUR FUTURE TEAMAs part of TCEQ’s Office of Legal Services, you would provide legal assistance to the Executive Director and agency programs, by ensuring that agency decisions and policies follow the law, and are applied consistently.This position is for placement into an enforcement section in the agency’s Litigation Division.TELEWORKThis position offers an opportunity to work remotely in a hybrid schedule, with a minimum 2 in-office days/week, in OLS located in Building A in Agency Headquarters in Austin.WHAT YOU WILL DOEnforcement attorneys in the Litigation Division represent the Executive Director and principally TCEQ’s Office of Compliance and Enforcement. In this role, you would develop administrative enforcement litigation, negotiate agreed enforcement orders, and pursue default orders when necessary. You would use your skills and experience to:Perform highly advanced legal and administrative work for the TCEQ.Act as primary legal representative to a section, program, or division of the agency. Direct and/or review work of the agency’s legal staff.Represent the Executive Director at contested case hearings, agency agenda meetings, alternative dispute resolution proceedings and/or other agency proceedings. Represent the agency with the Attorney General’s Office in civil actions brought by or against the agency. Negotiate agreements and orders.Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions, briefs, and other legal documents for longer term projects or matters involving novel legal issue.Render opinions or direct opinions, interpreting provisions and participating in the drafting of rules and policies affecting agency operations and administration. Research, drafts, and/or assist in drafting bills and amendments for legislative consideration.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAdmission to the State Bar of Texas plus seven years of full-time experience in the practice of law, or employment in a responsible position involving legal work as a primary duty or five years of full-time experience in the practice of environmental law or employment involving environmental legal work.ANDSatisfaction of one or more of the following criteria:Meets six of nine Attorney IIIB career ladder knowledge, skills, and abilities criteria; orDemonstrates exceptional knowledge of highly complex area or subject matter, anda) reports directly to Assistant Division Director;b) routinely acts in place of Senior Attorney or other high-level supervisor or;c) supervises the work of other attorneys in the demonstrated area of expertisePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience in administrative enforcement hearings and/or negotiation.Experience in administrative law.Experience in environmental law.TRANSCRIPTS / COLLEGE HOURS OR COURSE WORK:
