Title:Cultural/Academic Elective InstructorDepartment:TRiOReports To:Trio Director - Monique HutchinsonPosition Type:Grant FundedPosition Summary:Cultural/Academic Elective Instructor to provide instruction in a variety of cultural or academic elective topics including, but not limited to: Robotics, Coding, Engineering, Drama, Creative Writing, Current Events, Psychology, Sociology, Debate, Communications, Etiquette, Art, Dance, Chess, Karate, Yoga, Mentoring. Will hire individual candidates for each subject, or a candidate qualified to teach multiple subjects.Essential Functions:Ability to plan, organize, develop, and conduct a comprehensive instructional program for students enrolled in the Upward Bound Program. Conduct an integrated Elective class on various topics, teach students learning strategies, conduct teaching and instructional activities using educational equipment and other learning aids, prepare and submit a course outline prior to the start of the class, assist with the planning, instruction, and evaluation of tutoring and problem-solving activities, complete paperwork associated with classroom and project management, make recommendations on students' strengths and needs, report student learning and behavioral issues to the appropriate staff personnel, and assist with the training and evaluation of Teacher Assistants.Additional Functions:Transport students from one class location to another in a timely manner, ensuring proper supervision and safety of students. Must provide 24 hours' notice in the event of an absence. Classroom work must be prepared for students and the TA must be prepped by the instructor to deliver work or conduct an activity to students.Essential Characteristics:Candidate should possess a high level of integrity, have experience working with minority student populations, and must be organized and assertive.Prerequisite Qualifications:Two or more years of teaching experience at the high school or post-secondary level, completion of a background clearance check, ability to plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive instructional tutoring program for students enrolled in the Educational Talent Search Program, undergraduate or graduate degree in designated discipline, experience working with minority and disadvantaged students at the middle school, high school, or post-secondary level.Bargaining Unit:Non-AlignedFLSA:Non-ExemptPart-TimeSpecial Instructions to Applicants:A police background check must be completed.
