Position Summary:The position involves acquiring, cleaning, and preprocessing data using SQL and Python, followed by a deep analysis of complex datasets to generate actionable business insights. The role requires developing and automating custom reports, creating data visualizations, and scripting for automation tasks. Collaboration with different teams is essential for understanding their needs, communicating findings clearly, and applying technical skills for problem-solving. Ensuring adherence to data governance and privacy policies is also crucial. The successful candidate should be familiar with data science principles, database structures, and data governance and be proficient in Python. They should have strong skills in data wrangling, statistical analysis, report generation, data visualization, and effective communication. They should be capable of analytical thinking, attention to detail, self-learning, team collaboration, creative problem-solving, time management, and resilience.

Duties:

Addresses data analytics challenges, collects large volumes of data from varying sources, cleans and interprets data, creates solutions to overcome challenges, and communicates with interested parties.

Meets with team members regarding projects.

Collects and interprets data.

Automates and integrates processes.

Researches solutions to overcome data analytics challenges.

Develops complex mathematical models that integrate business rules and requirements.

Creates machine learning models.

Communicates and meets with engineers, IT teams, and other interested parties.

Shares complex ideas verbally and visually in an understandable manner with non-technical stakeholders.

Performs other duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.

Job RequirementsEducation:Bachelor's degree in related field.

Experience:48 months experience in Data Science, Predictive, or Advanced Analytics or related experience.

Equivalency/Substitution:Will accept 48 months of experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 96 months of related experience.

Skills:

Understanding of Data Science Principles: Familiarity with machine learning techniques, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling.

Data Governance and Privacy Regulations: Knowledge about relevant data governance and privacy laws and policies.

Higher Education Domain Knowledge: Understanding of higher education.

Databases and SQL: Understanding of database structures, principles, and SQL syntax.

Programming Languages: Proficiency in Python and potentially other relevant languages.

Data Visualization Tools: Familiarity with data visualization libraries and tools like Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, or PowerBI.

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to ethical data science practices, including understanding how to handle sensitive information and protect privacy without compromising the integrity of the data analysis.

Data Wrangling: Ability to acquire, clean, and preprocess data from various sources using SQL, Python, and other tools.

Statistical Analysis: Ability to analyze and interpret complex datasets using various statistical techniques.

Report Generation: Proficiency in developing, generating, and automating custom reports.

Data Visualization: Skill in creating interactive and static visualizations.

Python Scripting: Ability to write scripts for automating data processing and report generation tasks.

Communication: Ability to effectively communicate complex information to technical and non-technical audiences.

Problem Solving: Skill in applying technical expertise and business knowledge to solve complex problems.

Analytical Thinking: Ability to identify patterns and trends in data and make data-driven decisions.

Attention to Detail: Ability to handle data with precision and to spot anomalies and errors.

Self-Learning: Ability to stay updated with the latest technologies, techniques, and best practices in data science.

Team Collaboration: Ability to collaborate effectively with various teams to understand their needs and requirements.

Departmental Preferences:

Candidates with a master’s in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related field are preferred.

Preference for candidates with experience in a higher education setting and an understanding of this environment's specific needs and challenges.

Candidates with certifications in Python, SQL, or relevant data visualization tools like Matplotlib, Seaborn, or PowerBI are preferred.

Experience with machine learning techniques, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling is preferred.

Candidates with experience with standard data governance processes.

Preference for candidates with proven ability to automate processes and generate custom reports.
