Acquisitions LibrarianFacilitate the acquisition, licensing, processing and delivery of scientific and technical resources in all formats for the Research Library and division/researcher purchases. Follow procurement processes established by laboratory financial operations. Review, select and recommend new materials for the library and provide resolutions to problems of moderate scope.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of library journal subscription management principles and practices and national and international sources for scientific publications.Knowledge of standard business practices in the publications industry for print and electronic products.Knowledge of negotiations and principles related to digital information licensing.Knowledge of concepts, issues, and methods related to acquisition and disposition of resources including evaluation, selection, purchasing, processing, storing, and de-selection.Skills in data analysis and interpretation.Oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with individuals at all levels.Knowledge of procurement processes and procedures.Knowledge of government procurement practices.Knowledge of cataloging, metadata, indexing, and classification standards and methods used to organize recorded knowledge and information.Ability to evaluate and process consortial purchasing opportunities.Ability to develop and maintain productive and positive relationships with vendors, publishers, subscription agents, colleagues, scientists, engineers and laboratory staff.Ability to work with MARC editors.Ability to identify needs, evaluate current and potential licenses to support renewals, alternative access options and withdrawal.Ability to track library collection fund expenditures as well as enterprise wide web service tool expenditures.Ability to work with Library and Information Management staff members on collection development, scholarly publication fees, library assessment, and the exploration of new services and resources.Ability to manage accurate and timely expenditure of funds.Ability to document workflows, processes and best practices for the Acquisitions function.Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others.Detail oriented, professionally engaged, forward thinking.Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines.Ability to participate in the coverage of reference questions if needed.Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.Qualifications:Required Qualifications:• Master’s degree in library science or information science from an ALA-accredited institution.• 3-5 years of professional library experience in technical services in an academic, research or science library.• Experience working in the acquisitions module of an integrated library system, preferably ALMA.• Oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with individuals at all levels.Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated experience managing continuing resources in a research library.Demonstrated experience with consortial purchasing agreements.Experience with budget projections, allocations and reports.Ability to use scripts or tools to extract and manipulate data including web services and API’s.Strong understanding of science and engineering collections.Experience negotiating licenses with publishers.Experience with implementing government procurement processes.As an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer, and in accordance with our core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork, Argonne National Laboratory is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace that fosters collaborative scientific discovery and innovation.
