Senior Counsel.Overview:

This is a senior trial attorney position. The attorney will represent WMATA before courts and arbitration panels in various aspects of civil litigation, particularly tort actions. The attorney will prepare pleadings, motions, statements, trial briefs and be involved in settlement negotiations.Company:

WMATA was created by an interstate compact in 1967 to plan, develop, build, finance, and operate a balanced regional transportation system in the national capital area. Today, Metrorail serves 98 stations and has 128 miles of track. Metrobus serves the nation's capital 24 hours a day, seven days a week with a fleet of more than 1,500 buses. Metrorail and Metrobus serve a population of approximately four million within a 1,500-square mile jurisdiction consisting of the District of Columbia, the suburban counties of Montgomery and Prince George’s, and the Northern Virginia counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, and Falls Church.Experience:

A minimum of eight (8) years of civil litigation experience. Substantial first and second chair trial experience in state and federal courts in the District of Columbia and Maryland is required. Experience in state and federal court in Virginia is a plus. Experience litigating tort claims is preferred.Location:

Washington, D.C. in a hybrid work environment of three days a week (Monday – Wednesday or Wednesday – Friday). No relocations. Local candidates only.Compensation:

$175K - $185K + benefits.Bar:

Admitted to the Bar in the District of Columbia or must have a license to practice law in Maryland, Virginia, or another state, and apply for a license to practice law in the District of Columbia within 60 days of hire. Must be licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia within one year after commencement of employment.
