Building this platform involves close collaboration with teams from across Microsoft and our hardware ecosystem partners.The Platform Architecture team in Windows & Devices is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to work on our AI Platform efforts. We are looking for that special blend of engineer who brings their past expertise and experiences while embracing the new and unknown. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll have a key role in building services, tools, and libraries to bring AI into the everyday workflow of application development on Windows, with a special emphasis on supporting on-device execution of Small Language Models (SLMs). Your role involves contributing to the development of hybrid AI development patterns, connecting on-device SLMs with cloud-based frontier Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT-4. Lead technical discussions with stakeholders to determine user requirements and incorporate continuous feedback.Participate in the architectural design process, including hypothesis testing, code plan refinement, design documentation, and decision-making.Develop maintainable and extensible code, engage in proactive and reactive debugging, review code to meet quality standards, and participate in code reviews to apply best practices.Execute project and release plans, break down work items, conduct experiments for feature testing, support deployment processes, and understand the impact on users and services.Maintain live service operations, act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) for system monitoring, analyze telemetry data, contribute to automation and compliance processes, stay abreast of technological developments, and maintain communication with partners for user-centric product development.Embody our culture and values.Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with software architecture, design, and coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.OR equivalent experience.2+ years of experience developing components for Windows, Linux, RTOS or similar systems.1+ year of demonstrated experience with Machine Learning and graphics APIs such as DirectML, DirectX, Vulkan, or OpenGL.Additional Or Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Math or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python.OR equivalent experience.Experience with system-level power and performance analysis and OS fundamentals.Experience with workload tracing tools, such as GPUView, and performance analysis tools, such as ARM Development Studio and Snapdragon Profiler.Ability to quickly ramp up on complex and unfamiliar codebases, and work across multiple teams to drive code quality and performance.
