You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.BASIC REQUIREMENTSUnited States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.English Language Proficiency.Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).Licensure: Active, full, current and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.PREFERRED EXPERIENCEOne year experience in a long term care facility.RESPONSIBILITIESThe Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the Veteran. The LPN provides nursing care to chronically ill and/or stabilized acutely ill patients who require rehabilitation and nursing services in the CLC, a VA Long Term Care (LTC) facility. Assigned duties include but are not limited to the following:Prepares, administers, records, and communicates results of medications, vital signs, treatments, etc.Reports and records gross and subtle changes in patient's status.Recognizes and initiates appropriate response in emergent situations such as cardiac and/or pulmonary arrests.Completes pain evaluations and provides education or refers for further evaluation.Documents in medical record patient information including responses to treatments and procedures.Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with peers, coworkers, supervisor, and other health care system personnel.Participates in patient teaching activities.WORK SCHEDULE:
