Job Purpose

The Director of Special Events and Donor Relations plans, coordinates, and implements School of the Arts activities related to fundraising, donor stewardship, and constituent engagement, including special events presented by the Office of the Dean. This role works with the School of the Arts donors and volunteers to plan and implement activities tied to the School of the Arts Council, and coordinates the distribution of scholarships and awards within the school. The Director serves as a resource for faculty and staff regarding Foundation policies and procedures.

Responsibilities include providing reporting to the Dean, managing Foundation accounts, and working closely with the Dean to manage the priorities and funding goals for the Dean’s Excellence Fund (approximately $65,000 annually). The Director collaborates with the Director of Marketing and Communications to publicize special events and donor-centered content, and coordinates regular meetings with the School of the Arts volunteer council.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of two years of related experience in the areas of the arts, event management, and/or development.

Master’s degree preferred. Education and/or experience in the performing/creative arts and/or arts management are strongly preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong understanding of Federal, South Carolina, and College of Charleston Foundation laws, policies, and procedures.

Ability to coordinate complex administrative activities and knowledge in planning, developing, and implementing special events.

Ability to create a welcoming environment and maintain effective working relationships.

Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and CRM software required.

Demonstrated ability to express written and verbal thoughts clearly.

Additional Comments Regarding Position

Requires some evening and weekend hours.

Job Duties

Supports the School of the Arts’ fundraising and development:

Plans a complex array of stewardship, acknowledgement, donor cultivation, and special event activities.

As the scholarship liaison:

Monitors compliance with scholarship agreements and coordinates with various departments.

Monitoring Foundation accounts:

Prepares deposits and reimbursement requests, and distributes data to relevant stakeholders.

Event promotion:

Prepares information for special events/projects and maintains a strong social media presence.

Works with student workers:

Assists in managing the workload of student workers and/or interns.
