Position Summary:To perform routine and specialized examinations in Ultrasound; adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic and/or therapeutic results; prepare patients for examinations. This requires independent judgment to adapt procedures to obtain specific diagnostic results under the direction of a radiologist.Qualifications:EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Associate's Degree in Ultrasound or Related field OR Certificate in Radiologic TechnologyCERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)Abdomen (AB), OB/GYNE (OB), Breast (BR), Fetal Echo (FE), Neurosonology (NE) or Peds Sono (PS) upon hireBLS within 30 days of hireADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:Basic reading, writing, and oral English skillsAccountabilityMulticultural sensitivityCustomer/patient focusedBasic computer knowledgeCritical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisionsAbility to respond appropriately to customer/co-workerInteraction with a wide variety of peopleMaintain confidential informationAbility to communicate only the facts to recipients or to decline to reveal informationAbility to project a professional, friendly, helpful demeanorEssential Functions:Performs ultrasound procedures within the guidelines, policies, procedures and standards of Medical Imaging to assigned patientsExhibits competency in performing ultrasound proceduresImages required views demonstrating appropriate anatomy and pathologyKnowledgeable of catheters, biopsy instruments and sterile trays and prepares these items as necessaryObtains accurate histories and explains rationale for procedure to patients/familiesEnhances image quality through the use of appropriate transducers and machine settingsEvaluates the finished images to ensure diagnostic exams are being submitted to the radiologistsMaintains quality care throughout the procedureAssess the abdominal arterial & venous system using color imagingMaintains working knowledge of equipment in order to function in all areas of ultrasound.Performs reasonable trouble shootingReports equipment problems through appropriate channels & documents on board for all staff notificationMaintains clean work area, checks and stocks all supplies in their specific areaVerifies pertinent accessories assigned to that roomAble to document areas of concernPerforms support functions of the Medical Imaging department to ensure patient expectations and needs are metAssumes personal responsibility for training fellow technologists/students.Maintains and coordinates patient flow to ensure efficient and expedient patient careShares knowledge and guides fellow technologists/students with proper department protocol and proceduresDisplays a professional attitude in the area toward fellow technologists/studentsFosters mutual respect and creating productive learning environmentMust have the ability to multitask and triage multiple priorities.Must work well with a small work group as well as interdepartmentallyWe are an Equal Opportunity Employer and do not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, status as a veteran, and basis of disability or any other federal, state or local protected class.
