As a Senior Technical Project Manager on our team, you will manage mission partner research projects and internal efforts, and you will contribute to research projects. You will plan, schedule, budget, and assess risk throughout the project lifecycle and ensure consistent measure of project success.Requirements

You can interact collaboratively and diplomatically with customers and colleagues at all levels of experience and knowledge.Advanced Technology Experience: You have demonstrated contributions to advanced technology developments in areas related to machine learning, artificial intelligence, advanced computing, human-computer interaction, computer vision, and natural language processing. You are familiar with tools, software, programming languages, and frameworks associated with AI and modern machine learning.Dedication: You can meet deadlines while multi-tasking–sometimes under pressure and with shifting priorities.Initiative and Proactive Problem Solving: You are a creative problem solver and curious about both the research and the administrative processes that move our work forward. You identify risks as well as opportunities for improvement. You are forward-looking and can connect research with practical challenges.Organizational Savvy: You establish working relationships easily. You can quickly identify and connect with key people within and outside the team who can help facilitate project work, provide insights into processes, and solve problems.Working in a Creative, Dynamic Environment: You have experience in managing multiple simultaneous projects while thriving in a creative, ever-changing, high-energy environment.Duties

Project Management: You will provide project management services with increasing complexity in conjunction with division leadership, including technical managers and project leads. You will plan, monitor, and manage projects from original concept through final implementation, integrating structured project management methodology. You will prepare project plan templates that include definition, scope, resources, and schedule. You will manage and track project deliverables to ensure they are delivered on time by the team.Technical Contribution: As a technical contributor, you will conduct research and work with interdisciplinary teams to turn research results into prototype operational capabilities for government customers and stakeholders.Project Management Improvement: You will implement project management best practices and ensure individual projects are driving both mission partner and division-level impact. This includes the division’s charter to establish and sustain the discipline of AI Engineering.Planning and Prioritizing: You will allocate resources based on project size and needs, and you will establish and revise project priorities as appropriate to achieve project objectives. You will create and manage project budgets.Setting Research Objectives: You will work with AI Division collaborators and mission partners to identify, set, and refine project objectives, goals, and mission impact across multiple research and internal efforts.Customer and Stakeholder Engagement: You will regularly engage with customers and stakeholders to provide updates and ensure projects are on track. Additionally, you will support soliciting and managing customer feedback to ensure all efforts are successfully meeting customer expectations and objectives.Process Improvement: You will identify and suggest improvements to how we engage our customers, execute our work, develop our people, and function as a division.Metrics and Reporting: You will provide performance metrics related to the health of the research portfolio and active efforts across the team.Other Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience working in a federally funded research and development center or similar organization; OR Master’s degree and 8 years of experience; OR PhD and 5 years of experience.Candidates will be subject to a background check and must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance.Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.Flexible to travel to other SEI offices in Pittsburgh and Washington, DC, sponsor sites, conferences, and offsite meetings on occasion.
