The Interventional Radiology Technologist performs a variety of imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Participates in CQI activities.Essential Duties:Demonstrates responsibility for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.Responsible for safe handling and use of equipment.Instructs and prepares patients for various interventional procedures.Maintains the appropriate stocking level of supplies.Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure.Safely and correctly operates radiographic equipment to produce angiographic, digital and other specialized images.Is familiar with use of life monitoring equipment and is able to assist RN with set up of the equipment for use during a procedure.Preps and drapes patients following aseptic techniques.Scrubs in and assists radiologist with manipulation of catheters and guide wires.Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.Injects contrast media according to Radiology Policy.Ensures proper technical factors are selected prior to image exposure.Ensures all images are properly marked prior to image transfer to PACS.Programs portable or stationary x-ray machines and makes radiograms for a variety of examinations when necessary.Annotates and enhances digital images prior to sending to radiologist for review.Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedure.Billing and coding for various interventional procedures and equipment used for the procedures.Assists in maintaining basic records and reports.Assists in maintaining files.Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel.Takes Interventional call according to the monthly schedule.Interacts professionally with patient, family and staff.Completes all work competently and efficiently before leaving.Demonstrates knowledge of local fire and safety regulations.Knowledgeable of hospital policies and the functions of the other departments.Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including neonate, pediatric, geriatric and the general population.Customer Service: Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support, and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.Education and Experience:High school graduate; BS degree preferred.Graduate from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology, either college affiliated or hospital trained.Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.Licensed by the State of Maine to practice and administer radiation.Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required within one month of expiration.Five years’ experience as a Radiologic Technologist under a Board Certified Radiologist.One-year experience in Interventional Radiology preferred.Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to engage patients and team members utilizing the CMH Experience Standards:I am creating a warming, caring, and non-judgmental environment.I am actively listening and seeking information.I am honest, truthful, and consistent.I am respectful, treating all individuals with dignity and empathy.I am serving as a role model, taking both initiative and ownership when appropriate.I am working collaboratively and demonstrating teamwork.I am resilient and adapt to change in positive ways.Serve as the champion of the patient and team member experience by providing an A+ experience to every patient and team member, every day.Basic computer knowledge.Excellent Customer Service Skills.Ability to prioritize and use critical thinking skills.Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.Additional languages preferred.Effectively communicate with patients and co-workers in a supportive and tactful manner.Ability to remain calm in a busy or stressful situation.Represent the organization in a positive manner, support and encourage strong morale within the team and maintain effective, professional relationships with others.If you are passionate about making a difference and are looking for your next great career opportunity, we look forward to reviewing your application!
