About Us:The Massachusetts Immigrant Collaborative (M.I.C. or ‘the Collaborative’) was born out of a need to address inequities faced by immigrant communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Founded in April 2020 and inspired by the Boston Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Advancement, the Collaborative began with Agencia Alpha, the Brazilian Worker Center, and the Rian Immigrant Center. Today, M.I.C. is a diverse statewide collective of 15 organizations, united in our mission to ensure access to vital resources for historically under-resourced immigrant communities, especially the most vulnerable.
We approach this work in solidarity with individuals and families we serve, respecting their dignity and human rights in the process. We offer a number of programs to support economic mobility, meet urgent needs like cash and food assistance, provide immigration legal services, and empower youth and adults through education and workforce readiness.
Since our founding, we have:
Provided emergency cash assistance to 120,000 immigrants
Distributed 4,000,000 pounds of food
Offered culturally appropriate COVID vaccines access for 5,000 immigrants
Trained 300 immigrant youth ‘Dreamers’ in leadership and workforce skills
Developed a centralized legal services program providing 857 consultations and 265 full representation cases in 2023 alone
Awarded $2.9M to implement the City of Boston, Immigrant Economic Recovery Initiative
About the Role:M.I.C. is ready for a new Executive Director to bring us from a successful collaborative with fiscal sponsorship to a 501(c)3 with greater reach and impact. The Executive Director (ED) of M.I.C., will be the strategic and operational leader, working closely with our 4-5 member Steering Committee to drive our mission and expand our impact. Expertise in immigration services, coupled with leadership skills, will be crucial in guiding our statewide initiatives and ensuring that our programs continue to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve.
ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Management:
Oversee programs state-wide with consistent engagement of partners, a rigorous assessment system, and consistent quality systems in finance and administration, fundraising, and communications.
Oversee financial management, including operation and project budgets, working with auditors, quarterly reports for Steering Committee, and working with outsourced bookkeeping and accounting team.
Actively convene, engage, and energize member partners, the steering committee, working groups, funders and other collaborators.
Maintain an active Steering Committee; seek and foster committee engagement with the organizations’ strategic priorities and sustainability for ongoing Boston area and state-wide operations.
Lead, coach, develop, and retain full-time and contractual staff members of the Collaborative and liaise with the Rian fiscal sponsor finance and HR teams.
Ensure effective systems for tracking progress on initiatives while regularly assessing programming successes and challenges so as to inform timely adaptations and accurate reporting to the partners, funders, and other constituents.
Foster and model a culture of reflection and continuous learning.
Support the transition from fiscal sponsor to 501(c)3 in collaboration with Steering Committee.
Fundraising & Communications:
Develop and implement fundraising and revenue ($2-4 million annual budget) generating activities to support program operations and expansion while working closely with current part-time development consultant.
Deepen and refine all aspects of communications and advocacy. Including: press coverage, web presence, partner communications, and external relations.
Engage with public education to increase awareness and support; inform policy makers on immigration including legislative initiatives,
Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.
Planning & New Initiatives:
Design for the growth and deeper integration of programming within and across each of the Collaborative’s five strategic priorities.
Build more public and private partnerships across immigration services providers and supporting sectors, expand on existing and build new relationships with funders, elected officials and community leaders associated with each area of growth.
Be a strong local and state-wide presence publishing and communicating with MIC and Partners all program results with an emphasis on the successes and lessons drawn so as a model for regional, state-wide and national inspiration and replication.
