Overview:The Consultant, Business Effectiveness is responsible for contributing to projects that impact the business through in-depth research analysis, interpretation, documentation, and advice on moderately complex business information. The role applies subject matter expertise to consult with the business on process improvements, leading the technical development to deliver high quality processes and procedures while ensuring compliance with CIBC requirements standards, work practices, processes, security standards and policies.

The Consultant, Business Effectiveness uses independent judgement to provide guidance to project teams, applying a comprehensive, conceptual, and practical understanding of the area of specialization to a wide range of business and technical situations while analyzing business performance. The role participates in risk management and cost optimization projects, supporting the execution of a satisfactory risk plan that incorporates successful audit, and continuous audit and monitoring.

Responsibilities:Risk Assessment : Identify and assess potential risks in the HR processes and operations. This includes risks related to recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and compliance with labor laws.

Risk Mitigation : Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and processes. This includes creating procedures to minimize the impact of identified risks.

Review procedures and standards and adjust or recommend changes to procedures and standards as appropriate.Support the line of business in ensuring adherence to and proper implementation of various Business Line Risk Management practices around the following areas:Policies, procedures, and standardsRisk identification/assessmentInternal controls & testingOperational resilienceReporting & communicationTrainingTechnology & dataOwn the design, implementation, and modification of controls to mitigate risks, as applicable.

Compliance : Ensure HR practices are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.

Implement business-specific processes and procedures, as applicable, in alignment with existing frameworks, policies, standards, and risk appetites.Own and manage respective business continuity risks within respective risk tolerances, in compliance with the policy, standards, guidelines, and processes.Stay updated with the latest changes in labor laws and regulations.

Training : Conduct training sessions for HR staff and managers on risk management strategies and compliance requirements.

Reporting : Prepare regular reports on the status of risks identified and the effectiveness of the mitigation strategies implemented.

Collaboration : Build and maintain working relationships with stakeholders across the different functions the team supports including but not limited to Internal Audit, Legal, Finance, and Operations to address cross-functional risks.

Define business requirements and confirm funding for services/products to be sourced.Provide input to Governance and Controls teams and Internal Audit as needed to respond to Internal Audit reviews and findings.

Knowledge and Skills:Minimum of 5 years in with financial services industry with 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in risk management and human resources.Experience with labor laws and regulations.Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills; ability to articulate complex issues concisely and communicate effectively and comfortably with senior leadership.Strong initiative, energy, and confidence in completing projects with limited supervision.Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.Ability to execute tasks under aggressive targets and effectively manage change in plans.Highly motivated, self-starter; able to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, and comfortable working in non-routine situations.BA/BS Degree in Human Resources or related field.
