We are seeking a Criminal Defense Attorney who will be representing adult defendants within the criminal justice system by organizing and maintaining each case from arrest through appeal. The Allegheny County Office of Conflict Counsel represents clients who cannot, due to a conflict of interest, be represented by the Allegheny County Public Defender’s Office. This position is based within the Allegheny County Office of Conflict Counsel (OCC).

Who is the Allegheny County Office of Conflict Counsel?
The Office of Conflict Counsel is part of the Allegheny County Public Defender’s office, which provides legal counsel when a client needs representation and is unable to afford it. All OCC cases are heard in the Adult Section.

You are a highly organized individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You are an excellent communicator, with a demonstrated interest in working with at-risk youth.
What Will You Be Responsible For?
Organizing and maintaining cases from arrest through appeal, including appearing for all court hearings (including jury trials).Drafting motions and correspondences for cases.Preparing each case as required for full and competent representation of the client. This includes client contact, legal research and all preparations and pleadings.Visiting adult criminal defendants in local jails and interacting with witnesses from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.Familiarizing self with resources available for adult defendants, including drug/alcohol programs, sentencing alternatives, and other social programs.
What Background and Skills Does the Ideal Candidate Have?
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.Ability to conduct online filing and research.Ability to work as part of a team and be able to contribute to a group, as well as have individual success.Candidate must have graduated from an ABA accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in the state of Pennsylvania.A cover letter and writing sample are required and should be submitted along with an application and resume.
Job Location
This is an onsite, office position based at the Allegheny County Public Defender’s Office in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.
Salary And Benefits
Salary is $65,000 per year. If hired, candidates would be employed by GL and assigned to Allegheny County Public Defender’s Office. This position is for full-time employment.
