The Chemist position assists in providing solutions to problems involving analytical chemistry, process chemistry and chemical waste management. Provide technical support to the laboratory by developing, planning, coordinating and implementing procedures in the laboratory and other areas of the plant related to the design, development, performance and standards of operation.

Your Day to Day:Perform general laboratory chemical testing in conjunction with the testing laboratory programSupport senior chemists and supervisors by performing related testingProvide limited direction to laboratory technicians on processesEnsure instruments are maintained and operational; update and validate accuracy of operational proceduresMaintain critical spares inventory for the instrumentsEnsure calibration meets operational standardsAssist laboratory technicians in proper application of processesAssist in preparation of project cost proposals in assigned areasPerform evaluations on new equipmentConduct evaluation of new methodologiesResearch and make recommendations for potential cost savingsConduct chemical analytical work in laboratory in cooperation with senior chemistsVerify data analysis is accurateVerify that calculation formulas are appropriate and accurateAssist in the preparation and development of chemical testing manuals, reports and proceduresDevelop and modify proceduresDevelop and issue analytical reportsEnsure the accuracy of limited assigned analyses and evaluations of results using standard analytical techniques and proceduresEvaluate effectiveness of implemented cost improvements

What you need to be successful in this role:B.S. degree in STEM discipline5 years laboratory experience or equivalent educationGeneral knowledge of analytical chemistry and statistical principlesChemistry, American Chemical Society certification preferredKnowledge of extractive and physical metallurgy preferredAmerican Chemical Society certification preferred
