Job Number: 2023-00229The King County Library System (KCLS) Systems Engineer is seeking an experienced Data Analyst.The Data Analyst supports innovation and organizational excellence as part of KCLS’ Strategy team. This role performs complex analytical work to extract, clean, and synthesize data from databases, surveys, third-party applications, and APIs. The Data Analyst provides visualizations and written analysis of data findings to assist in decision-making. Our organization is dynamic and therefore duties may change based on business necessity; however, any new duties will remain within the scope of the job.Collects, compiles, extracts, and organizes complex information and data from multiple systems into a variety of summary and detailed reports/presentations.Performs complex statistical analysis, interprets findings, and makes recommendations based on research, analysis, and best practices.Designs and creates reports in Microsoft Power BI that include analysis of internal and external data sources.Works directly with stakeholders, internal customers and end users to understand needs and use cases, to develop analysis and reporting plans, and to solicit feedback on reports.Develops written documentation, internal operating procedures, user manuals, and instructions to facilitate maintenance and use of data and reports.Works closely with the Data Engineer throughout the cycle of analysis and reporting. May consult data owners and other subject matter experts in the normal course of work.Identifies, analyzes, documents and tracks data integrity, usability, and performance. Investigates and resolves data, reporting, and system inconsistencies.Contributes to organizational strategies and procedures in areas of assignment, including data management, governance, and literacy.Secondary DutiesApplies knowledge of current national research findings to inform the development and delivery of library services.Attends and actively participates on various internal and external committees.Keeps informed of changing trends or emerging initiatives within area of assigned responsibility.Performs other duties as assigned.Desired Minimum Qualification: Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree from an accredited school with major in data science, statistics, or related field preferred.Two or more years’ experience in data analysis of increasing complexity, including coursework or experience in statistical analysis.Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position will be considered.Knowledge and SkillsExperience using advanced Microsoft Excel functions.Experience using a database querying language (preferably SQL)Experience creating reports and dashboards using a visualization platform (Microsoft Power BI strongly preferred)Experience utilizing APIs.Professional Licenses and CertificationsCertification in data science, data visualization, or related credential preferred.Physical Demands & Work Environment:Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires a strong team orientation. Some pressure from deadlines or changing priorities exists and interruptions to workflow can occur. This position encounters new, unusual, hectic or demanding situations frequently. Incumbent may be permitted hybrid telework schedule upon request.Physical DemandsConstantly sits and seldom/occasionally will stand and walk.Will frequently reach up to chest level with hands and arms to work at desk.Constantly using hands in conjunction with frequent finger use for keyboarding and 10 key.Extensive close work including use of a PC monitor.Will occasionally lift up to 10 pounds, seldom up to 35 pounds.
