Blue Origin, Los Angeles, California, United States, 90079

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will lead the definition and validation of the Blue Moon MK1 Lander Lunar Orbit, De-Orbit, Descent, and Landing (DDL), and Surface Phases as part of the Mission Analysis team. This includes defining, analyzing, and validating mission activities conducted in these phases, developing the CONOPS, conducting related system-level trades, and tasking/mentoring other engineers conducting related analyses. You will interface closely with the vehicle simulation team, Integrated Product Teams, and mission operations, as well as applying MBSE-based mission models, and participate in risk and decision boards to ensure a successful demonstration of Blue Origin's first lunar lander.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Take ownership and maintain CONOPS and mission activities for lunar orbit, DDL, and lunar surface phases, including applying MBSE-based mission models and overseeing technical resource budgets.Oversee and participate in phase-specific V&V activities, both hardware testing and vehicle simulations.Evaluate and run vehicle simulation, test reports, and other analysis products.Identify and mitigate potential risks or issues discovered in system integration & test.Work with the mission operations team to ensure translation of the CONOPS to sound procedures, flight rules, and mission planning.Generate, decompose, and review tasks & initiatives for other engineers on the Mission Analysis team or supporting IPTs, while training and mentoring others.Minimum QualificationsB.S. or M.S. in aerospace engineering or related field.6+ years of experience on space missions, including in late development cycles (post-CDR to launch).Direct experience in systems engineering and basic familiarity with all major subsystems of robotic spacecraft.Strong communication and organizational skills.Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Preferred Qualifications10+ years of relevant experience.Direct experience working on planetary landers and/or vehicles operating in the lunar environment.Demonstrated experience in GNC, including running/evaluating vehicle simulations/6DOF and interplanetary trajectory design.Familiarity with spacecraft propulsion systems, particularly cryogenic fluids systems.Track record of managing spacecraft resources and solving complex, high-impact multidisciplinary design issues.Hands-on hardware-in-the-loop testing experience.Subject matter expertise in spacecraft thermal, communications, CDH/flight software, and/or mechanisms.Experience in mission operations.
