Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.Experience with taxonomic classification across modalities.Experience with unsupervised models (i.e., BERT, MUM-style architecture, etc.).Experience with evaluating models in production environments.Excellent technical judgment and ability to balance short and long-term tradeoffs and tensions.About the job

We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.As a Staff Software Engineer you will be responsible for shaping the AI/ML engineering strategy for content understanding products in Ads and beyond (i.e., experiences in Google Ads, YouTube, Gmail, Search, etc.). You will partner with executive leaders across Google to determine the overall approaches to and investments in AI, ML, and GenAI, with direct applications to our most challenging problems. Your expertise will be applied to a range of problems in the field such as large taxonomies, foundational content understanding models, and platforms for rapid end-to-end modeling. We’re made up of multiple teams, building Google’s Advertising products including search, display, shopping, travel and video advertising, as well as analytics. Our teams create trusted experiences between people and businesses with useful ads. We help grow businesses of all sizes from small businesses, to large brands, to YouTube creators, with effective advertiser tools that deliver measurable results. We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale.Responsibilities

Contribute to shaping the engineering strategy, approaches, and investments in AI, ML, and GenAI at Google Ads.Partner with engineering leaders across Ads understanding to develop engineering strategy and advance Core Signals products.Lead, design, and review business critical features across our teams in the context of AI, ML, and GenAI across modalities and products.Build the state of the art AI, ML, and GenAI capabilities to solve the growing need and complexity of customer needs.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
