Position Summary

The Chief Operating Officer of the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) is one of considerable responsibility. The Chief Operating Officer is responsible to and works under the direction of the Center’s President/CEO. They are responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Center’s staff and for implementing CORE policies as established by the Center’s Board of Directors and President/CEO. They are responsible for participating in a work environment which is safe-proof, injury-free, fire safe, free of violence, and free from every form of discrimination. They should obtain their CPTC Certification within 1 year of completion of probation period.

Scope of Responsibilities

The Chief Operating Officer has the direct responsibility to supervise the Director of Professional Services, Director of Clinical Operations, Funeral Director & Coroner Liaison, Advanced Practice Donation Coordinators (APDC), Procurement Surgeon(s) employed by CORE, and Executive Administrative Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer. Responsibilities include developing new programs, liaising with other OPOs, supervising educational efforts, maintaining contact with transplant centers, and ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory agencies. They will maintain 24-hour accountability for staff compliance and will be responsible for taking administrator on call (AOC). They are required to make independent decisions and use rational judgment in planning, organizing, implementing, and operationalizing CORE’s initiatives.

Job Qualifications

The Chief Operating Officer must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, with a preferred Master’s in a health-related field. Prior executive level experience is required; however, prior experience in an OPO can supplement the executive and educational level experience. This individual will report directly to the CEO and must demonstrate the ability to travel monthly within the CORE DSA.

Degree of Job Difficulty

The degree of difficulty falls into the difficult to very difficult range due to the critical nature of the responsibilities. Inadvertent errors or mistakes could result in the death of a transplant recipient, financial ruin, legal action, and loss of Federal Certification to operate.

Supervisory Requirements

The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Director of Professional Services, Director of Clinical Operations, Funeral Director & Coroner Liaison, Advanced Practice Donation Coordinators, Procurement Surgeon(s) employed by CORE, and Executive Administrative Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer. They may delegate supervisory responsibilities to the Directors and Managers of the Center for Organ Recovery & Education.
