Organizer Position

Based in Northern Virginia

This is a full-time bargaining unit position to work on an organizing campaign based in Northern Virginia. Organizers are responsible for a variety of aspects of external organizing including building relationships with workers, developing issues-based organizing plans for assigned areas, recruiting and sustaining motivation of organizing committee members and activists, having 1:1 conversations with potential members to ask them to join their union, and working with the organizing committee to plan and implement member-to-member outreach drives. Union, community, or political organizing experience preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Willing to work long and irregular hoursDedicated to social and economic justice, and public education accessBe in possession of an insured vehicle and valid driver's licenseDemonstrated ability to work with a diverse populationHave strong communications skillsMust be competent in basic computer/web functions, and social media platformsBe motivated, responsible, organized, professional and detail-orientedBe able to work independently while also being able to incorporate constructive feedback and direction from the Organizing Director.At least 1 year of previous labor and/or community organizing, a background in public education issues is preferredExperienced in community, student, political, or labor activism is a plusSUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Organize and mobilize workersAttend regular meetings with supervisors and team to discuss progress and plan activitiesOne-on-one visits, site visits, meetings, and other interaction with members and potential membersEnter assessments and other data collected in a database on a regular basisOccasionally, be assigned to other parts of the state or country as requiredTake direction on activities to grow membership and accomplish goals

SALARY AND BENEFITS:The salary for the position is $60,000. Benefits include paid health benefits, dental benefits, paid time off, sick leave, travel, and expense reimbursements. This is a bargaining unit position.
