Overview:

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is seeking a detail-oriented, high-energy Events Operations Assistant Manager to join our team.

About the role:

The Event Operations Assistant Manager is responsible for executing all daytime and evening public and private events, from set-up to clean-up. This position ensures a seamless guest experience and upholds high Zoo event standards by managing day-of event execution and serving as the key Zoo representative for vendors, staff, and clients during events. This dynamic role works a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. This position will report directly to the Director of Events and Sales.

General Duties and Responsibilities

(include but not limited to):Assist with hiring and supervising Events staff, including bartenders, event assistants, and birthday party leaders.Coordinate the schedules of event captains and assistants.Manage event logistics, including ordering and inventory of Events supplies.Event Duties:

Serves as Zoo liaison with all vendors day-of event, including escorting vendors in and out of Zoo grounds, overseeing setup and assisting with troubleshooting to ensure proper execution.Act as the primary point of contact for the client on the day of the event, coordinating and facilitating all client needs as outlined in the Banquet Event Order (BEO).Oversee and support front gate security, bartenders, event assistants, birthday party leaders, and staff during events to ensure timely arrival, high-quality performance, and a smooth interaction between the client, guests, and vendors.Responsible for ensuring an orderly and clean Zoo environment by inspecting facilities, restaurants, lighting, and A/V equipment prior to and throughout the event.Dismiss staff such as Front Gate Security, Event Assistants, and Bartenders at the end of the event.Post-Event Duties:

Assist bartenders and supervise staff with tear down. Ensure the facilities are clean and ready for the next day's opening, including trash removal and turning off lights.Oversee the pickup of rental equipment and ensure the condition of the venue is satisfactory for the next day's operations.Fill out the appropriate forms and reports, including the client change form, accident report, or other incidents you encountered throughout the evening.Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.Experience in Banquets, Food and Beverage service, or prior hospitality experience is required.Strong attention to detail.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Basic competence in subordinates' duties and tasks.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deliver excellent customer service.Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.Candidates might be (depending on position) required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, negative skin tuberculosis test, and possess a valid driver's license with a good history.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

Will often work extended/odd hours, including weekends, holidays, and night programs.Must be able to walk long distances across multiple venues and work areas. Will assist in moving products between multiple areas within the Zoo.This position works primarily in an indoor event room environment; however, a significant portion of the duty is in an outdoor exotic animal/zoo environment subject to all types of weather conditions.Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above the head, and climb.Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
