SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in the District of Columbia, helping them to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help to transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them. Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.SOME’s family housing includes playgrounds and community spaces for the enrichment of the children and adults in residence. Education Program Assistant

for our Family Services program at Griffin House/Family Services Location in Washington, DC.Position Description:

The Education Program Assistant provides assistance with youth programming and educational activities for children in Family Housing. This role involves assisting in the planning, coordination, and implementation of educational programs that foster learning and development in a safe and nurturing environment.Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 4:00 pm- 8:00 pm (20 hours/week), on-site.Qualifications:Required:

HS/GED; 1-3 yrs experience in education or social services; Previous experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting; Passion for working with children and supporting their development.Preferred:

Bachelor's Degree; 3-5 yrs experience in education or social services; experience providing services to at-risk students and low-income families; Valid Driver's License.Required License/Certification:

CPR/First-Aid, CPR for Infants; Food Handler's License is preferred and must be obtained in the first month of employment.Knowledge Skills & Abilities:Action-orientedKnowledge of early childhood educationCreativityOrganized with attention to detailPatience in working with childrenAbility to communicate with a diverse group of parents and childrenExcellent verbal and written communicationAbility to work independently and in a team environmentAbility to set professional boundariesProficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and OutlookExpected Contributions: Youth ProgrammingLead youth through SOME Place for Kids activities in after-school programs (approx. ages 5-13)Collaborate with Youth Services Coordinator and staff to develop and implement programsAssist in developing communications to promote programsCommunicate with students and parents to collect report cards, collect permission slips, etc.Purchase supplies, as neededAssist in summer programs, as neededAssist with tutoring activities for childrenAssist volunteers in learning program activitiesDevelop monthly volunteer reportsDevelop monthly activities calendarAssist with administrative issues, as neededProvide oversight and supervision of youth during SPFK programmingInput SPFK attendance records into CRMPlan, develop and implement youth programs using approved educational resourcesReports to:
