Department: Communication and Social SciJob Summary/Basic Function:Nestled between the scenic Cascade Mountains and Puget Sound in an increasingly diverse and fast-growing region of the country, Everett Community College is seeking a tenure-track English instructor to begin serving in the Winter quarter of 2025.Everett Community College is committed to closing opportunity and equity gaps in student outcomes and in ensuring that the experiences of historically underrepresented students are welcomed and valued on our campus and in our classrooms. In realizing this commitment, we strive to create a culture in which faculty use data and inquiry to reflect on classroom practices and improve learning outcomes for students.We encourage applications from candidates who identify with groups that are historically underrepresented in higher education.Primary responsibilities for this position include teaching first year co-requisite English composition courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities, centering the needs and experiences of developing writers.Through our Guided Pathways Advising model, full-time faculty also serve as program advisors for students. Faculty in these areas are assigned a caseload each year in line with the AFT Faculty Contract. These duties include, but are not limited to, building and maintaining professional relationships with advisees to support them in their goals, creating, reviewing and approving academic plans; providing career and/or transfer advice; and making referrals to appropriate EvCC support services.Other specific duties include the following:Develop and coordinate curriculum to improve student success and retention and meet the changing educational needs of students.Identify and implement procedures/techniques to assess individual student learning.Participate in assessment of course, program, and college learning outcomes.Maintain regularly scheduled office hours for the purpose of assisting, advising, and mentoring students.Collaborate with faculty and staff on department, division and campus-wide projects.Participate in all other tasks related to instruction in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement and College policies.Minimum Qualifications:Master’s degree in English, English Education, Composition and Rhetoric, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.Demonstrated competence and success in teaching pre-college and first year English writing/composition at the college level.A working knowledge of practices consistent with current methodologies and pedagogies in both developmental writing education and first year writing and composition.Demonstrated experience and classroom strategies for effectively facilitating learning for students from diverse backgrounds, including differences in culture, heritage, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, ability, class, and religion.Experience using a Learning Management System (such as Canvas or Blackboard) as a student or a teacher.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.Asset-based approach when interacting with students, faculty, and staff across the college.Demonstrated contributions to department, division and campus-wide projects and initiatives such as placement, assessment, grant initiatives, accreditation, or Guided Pathways.Preferred Qualifications:NonePhysical Demands:Ability to operate office equipment.Ability to read and verify data and prepare various materials.Ability to exchange information on the phone or in person.Work Hours:
