Position Title: Attorney
The
Montana Department of Transportation (MDT)
is recruiting for an Attorney. This position represents MDT in areas of transportation law, including trials and hearings in state and federal district and appellate courts and before administrative forums. The role provides general counsel advice and guidance to the Director, administrators, and program managers, reporting to MDT’s Chief Counsel. Bachelor’s Degree and a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.3 years of experience in practicing law (legal internships and clerkships may be considered).This agency may use a training assignment, with conditions stated in writing at the time of hire.Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of Montana and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Evidence, and Rules of Appellate Procedure.Knowledge of concepts, theories, and principles related to transportation law including eminent domain, contract claims, employment law, environmental law, and administrative law.Skills in legal research, writing, citation, and documentation.Skills in negotiating and mediating conflicts.Ability to communicate professionally and effectively.Required Application Materials
