GENERAL DESCRIPTIONHuman Trafficking Division of the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an Assistant Attorney General that performs legal work that involves planning, coordinating, and monitoring legal activities; providing legal advice, counsel, and assistance; representing the State’s interest in criminal matters; reviewing, evaluating, and rendering legal opinions.The OAG is a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) experience the challenge and honor of public service while enjoying a healthy work-life balance; hands-on legal experience; and engaging camaraderie in Austin, the scenic and lively capital of Texas.ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONSPrepares incoming cases for Grand jury, hearings, docket settings, and trialsRepresents the State’s interest in prosecution of human trafficking and transnational organized crime casesRepresents the Office of the Attorney General before state courtsPerforms legal research and investigations, and reports findings and conclusionsPrepares legal documents, including but not limited to briefs, pleadings, and memorandaParticipates in administrative and evidentiary hearings and in the discovery processProvides legal advice, counsel, assistance, and training to local prosecutors and law enforcement entitiesAnalyzes complex factual and legal issues; develops evidence through witness interviews, investigations, and other evidenceAdvises clients and management on factual and legal issuesWorks closely with law enforcement on investigations of human trafficking and transnational organized crime casesPerforms related work as assignedMaintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functionsAttends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work scheduleEnsures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected informationComplies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrityQualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAssistant Attorney General (AAG) IV:Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (JD) degreeLicensed as an attorney by the State of TexasMember in good standing with the State Bar of TexasExperience: Three years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working in the following (or closely related) fields: Criminal Prosecutions, human trafficking, or child abuseKnowledge of legal principles, practices, and proceedings; and of state laws, regulations, and rulesSkill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlinesSkill in effective oral and written communicationSkill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision makingAbility to receive and respond positively to constructive feedbackAbility to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environmentAbility to provide excellent customer serviceAbility to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travelAbility to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSAAbility to lift and relocate 30 lbs.Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 20%Assistant Attorney General (AAG) V: All of the above qualifications for an AAG IV, PLUS:Experience: One additional year of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working in the following (or closely related) fields: Criminal Prosecutions, human trafficking, or child abusePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAssistant Attorney General IV:Experience: Four years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: Criminal Prosecutions, Human Trafficking, and/or Crime Against ChildrenAssistant Attorney General V:Experience: Six years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: Criminal Prosecutions, Human Trafficking, and/or Crime Against ChildrenTO APPLYTo apply for a job with the OAG, electronic applications can be submitted through CAPPS Recruit.
