We are looking to hire an
Attorney I
to defend lawsuits filed in California courts and other first party insurance defense. The position is with GEICO Staff Counsel located in San Diego, CA.
Job duties and responsibilities:Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memorandaRendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims DepartmentPreparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, to include depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath, and defending by trial or dispositive hearing, all matters assigned, as applicable
Basic Qualifications:3-5+ years of experience in related field REQUIREDJuris Doctor degree REQUIREDAdmission to the California Bar REQUIREDMust be licensed in good standing to practice law in California and meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicableMust be able to travel as required, including but not limited, to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferencesMust be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner, to be understood by customers, clients, co-workers and other employees of the organizationMust be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skillsMust be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
Preferred Qualifications:Civil litigation/Criminal litigation experienceInsurance defense-related litigation experience
Location – Hybrid:
After successful completion of 6-month orientation, this position will require 1-day working in San Diego, CA Staff Counsel Office and attending in-person hearings required by the court.
Annual Salary:
$97,000.00 - $152,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
