The HVAC Technician will maintain heating, ventilation & cooling equipment and controls in proper operation, control, and balance.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems utilizing knowledge of refrigeration and/or hydronic systems, air-side equipment/components, piping, valves, and ductwork, and controls.Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metal working tools and welding equipment.Installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system.Installs fan systems on “mounts” or in-line.Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools.Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant.Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit.Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connect control panels to power source.Installs air and water filters in completed installation.Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units.Provides Test and Balancing for air-side systems.Performs other related duties as assigned by management.Supervisory Responsibilities:This job has no supervisory responsibilities.Qualifications:Associate's Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.Certificates, licenses and registrations required: Certification to operate, maintain and repair AC, evaporative cooling, dehumidification, and mechanical ventilation equipment. Will need an EPA license.4 years journeyman’s experience in the trade.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Strong oral and written skills.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Physical Demands And Work Environment:Frequently required to stand.Frequently required to walk.Occasionally required to sit.Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.Frequently required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl.Frequently required to talk or hear.Occasionally required to taste or smell.Frequently work near moving mechanical parts.Occasionally work in high, precarious places.Occasionally work around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals.Occasionally exposure to outside weather conditions.While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.DAWSON is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action/VEVRAA federal contractor.
