LINCOLN PARK ZOO: Veterinary Technician

Three (3) non-exempt veterinary technicians currently report to the Director of Veterinary Services and Associate Veterinarian and provide technical assistance within the veterinary department operations and in their roles across the zoo. We need a dedicated, high-quality veterinary technician to join this team!Minimum Qualifications:Graduation from an AVMA-accredited school of veterinary technology, and requirement of a CVT license for Illinois obtained within 30 days of start date. Available to work any of seven days of the week or special needs or events that may occur outside of regular work schedule, including evenings, weekends or holidays, as required. Non-infectious tuberculosis status via intradermal skin test, thoracic radiographs, serologic status, or treatment regimen. Current rabies and COVID-19 vaccinations as required by the department.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSUnder general supervision and direction of veterinarians, assists in the medical care of all species under managed care or found on grounds including: anesthesia, emergencies, radiography, training, cleaning and disinfection of clinic and supplies.Performs other related duties required by veterinarians to maintain and operate the hospital safely and efficiently.Operates the diagnostic laboratory, including, but not limited to, hematology, biochemistry analysis, cytology, and parasitology, and preparation of biological specimens for shipment.Organizes and maintains pharmacy including ordering supplies and filling prescriptions.Assists with post-mortem examinations through necropsies, cleaning, waste removal, or sample handling.Maintains accurate records, including computer entry for Tracks or similar programs.Must demonstrate knowledge of occupational hazards involved and the safe work practices to employ while in proximity of potentially dangerous animals or substances.
