Our Mission is to use legal services, policy advocacy, peer education, and other tools to build power and opportunity for Black, Latiné, and other youth of color who the criminal legal system and other systems of oppression harm the most.POSITION SUMMARYYouth Represent is seeking a full-time Director of Development with a flexible start date.We are a youth defense and advocacy non-profit organization looking for a self-starting, entrepreneurial, results-oriented development professional with a passion for racial justice. To live true to our values, we provide comprehensive legal representation, community support, education, and policy advocacy on behalf of our clients and broader community network throughout NYC.The Director of Development will be a key member of the senior management team and joins Youth Represent at a pivotal time in our organizational growth. Youth Represent currently operates on a $3 million dollar annual budget, with diverse revenue streams including individual, foundation, government, and corporate giving.The successful candidate will have a talent for building relationships and a proven track record in securing funds from private and public donors. They will bring bold leadership to our fundraising team while recognizing that the majority of this position requires hands-on execution of fundraising duties. Our greatest opportunity for revenue growth is in the Individual Giving line. The Director of Development will use their expertise to support this expansion while continuing to cultivate current donor relationships and execute our other fundraising needs. They must also have a deep commitment to racial justice, understanding how race, gender, sexuality, and other identities play a role in historical harm in philanthropy and a dedication to ethical and community-centric fundraising.Reporting to the Executive Director, working closely with our Institutional Giving Manager, Development Associate, and Director of Communications & Culture, and engaging with a passionate Board of Directors, the candidate will support the development and execution of a comprehensive fundraising strategy, providing the necessary vision, leadership, and skills to identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward a pipeline of foundation donors, corporate sponsors, and individual prospects to help Youth Represent achieve short- and long-term goals for our programs and activities.RESPONSIBILITIESLeadership (30%)

Implement an annual fundraising and development plan, in partnership with the Senior Management and Board of Directors, aligning key programs with targeted revenue strategies.Review and enhance development operations, processes, and strategies.Lead the growth and expansion of the development department.Serve on the Senior Management team responsible for strategic decisions across the organization.Collaborate with the Executive Director to create cohesive and compelling core messaging for Youth Represent’s future to guide development strategy.

Individual Donors (25%)

Support the Executive Director in designing and executing activities to increase revenue from individual donors, including annual fundraising campaigns and events.Advance individual fundraising goals through major donor cultivation activities, including developing successful major donor engagement strategies, preparing for donor meetings, coaching the Executive Director and Board on making effective asks, and drafting donor updates and correspondence.Lead communications-related projects, including updating printed and online materials for events, campaigns, and social media.Ensure timely acknowledgment of all contributions in collaboration with the Operations & Development Coordinator.

Grants and Grants Management (20%)

Oversee the management and execution of a robust grants portfolio, including foundation and corporate opportunities, with support from the COO and grants consultant.Write and edit grants and reports for institutional donors.Research new funding opportunities and identify lapsed and prospective institutional funders.Ensure all grant-related goals, guidelines, and requirements are communicated and executed effectively.Support the review and submission of government grant reporting.

Stakeholder Engagement (15%)

Partner with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to engage in fundraising activities, including training and supporting board members in donor cultivation and solicitation efforts.Act as a representative of Youth Represent in the community, building partnerships with other organizations, and enhancing the organization's visibility and reputation.Develop and implement a comprehensive donor stewardship plan to ensure long-term donor engagement and retention, including personalized communication and recognition strategies.

Strategic Planning and Analysis (10%)

Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and monitor the annual development budget, ensuring that financial goals are met and resources are allocated efficiently.Create and implement a long-term fundraising strategy that aligns with Youth Represent's mission and growth objectives, identifying new revenue streams and innovative funding opportunities.Utilize fundraising data and metrics to assess the effectiveness of development strategies and campaigns, making informed decisions to optimize revenue generation and donor engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS7 to 10 years of nonprofit leadership experience as a fundraiser, with a proven track record in managing and growing development programs.Commitment to fundraising centered on racial justice, with superb writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.Proven ability to cultivate and secure revenue from a variety of funders, including corporations, foundations, and individuals.Experience in building and managing donor relationships, with a focus on major gift solicitation.Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.A personal approach that values and respects differences in race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstance.WORKING REQUIREMENTSEmployees are expected to work in-person at our lower Manhattan office twice a week.Candidates must reside in New York City or the surrounding area.SALARY RANGE & BENEFITS PACKAGESalary for this position is $128,750 - 135,000, commensurate with 7-10 years’ experience.Our benefits package is designed to support your well-being and work-life balance.
