The Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill, is seeking applications for an Assistant Attorney General 1-6. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Assistant Attorney General 1-6 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).Salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.The position will be domiciled in the Livingston Building, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, East Baton Rouge Parish. Click on the "Apply" link above and complete an electronic application which may be used for this vacancy as well as future job opportunities.Applicants may check the status of their application at any time by selecting the "Application Status" link after logging into their account.Minimum Qualifications:Must possess a license to practice law in the State of Louisiana.Must be in good standing with the Louisiana Bar Association.Ability to travel (including overnight travel).Preferred Qualifications:Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or business administration and/or legal experience in public finance law or closely related area;Skilled in legal research, writing, and analysis; using reasoning and logic; and in identifying and solving complex problems;Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, including listening and editing;Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines;Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback;Possess strong interpersonal skills, foster teamwork, promote a positive work environment that recognizes and respects all employees, and possess good judgment.Responsibilities:Researches and drafts legal opinions related to use of public funds, state and local taxation, retirement, and other public finance matters.Provides legal advice, counsel, and assistance to state agencies and local political subdivisions.Performs legal research and drafts all pleadings, correspondence, or other documents for litigation related to public finance;Develops, prepares, and presents training to state and local agencies on public finance matters such as the use of public funds and the procurement process;Monitors proposed legislation;Serves as the primary or secondary attorney on all assigned cases in all phases of litigation from assignment of the case through final disposition;Performs all work in compliance with the Louisiana Constitution, Louisiana Revised Statutes, Louisiana Code of Civil Procedures, Federal Administrative Procedure Act (APA), any applicable local rules of the court, and all other codes of professionalism and ethics;Requires attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering the highest quality of service to the State of Louisiana;Performs any additional duties assigned by supervisors.Additional Skills:Knowledge of laws, legal principles, and practices relevant to debt collection;Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines;Skill in effective oral and written communication;Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision-making;Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback;Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment;Ability to provide excellent customer service;Ability to work in person at assigned primary work site, perform all assigned tasks at designated primary work site within primary work site, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave);Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel;Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA;Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%.The Department of Justice is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
