Position OverviewThis position is fully funded by sponsored funds and is a short-term position that will provide training to Minnesota social workers and other human service professionals.This position is an open hire for trainers to support statewide training of professionals engaged in service to children and families involved in social service agencies. Learner cohorts are multidisciplinary in nature. Community trainers/writers are now being hired as Temp Casual employees of the University of Minnesota, Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW) for employment in the Permanency and Adoption Competency Certificate (PACC) and the Phoenix Learning Xchange (PLX). Through CASCW, trainers will provide high quality, culturally responsive, competency-based training to county and tribal child welfare professionals as well as professionals working in mental health, chemical and behavioral health, education, court and legal arenas, etc.Trainers and curriculum writers are hired to address core values and best practice models in alignment with the identified training topic which is also grounded in the Minnesota Child Welfare framework for competent child welfare practice. Trainers hired are expected to deliver content as outlined in the specified curriculum. Training sessions will be delivered based on a schedule determined by CASCW and the respective training program (PACC/PLX).
Job ResponsibilitiesClassroom Training (75%)Provide interactive, multidisciplinary training to child welfare and other social service professionalsInteract with learners to enhance growth and developmentClassroom Preparation (20%)Review and prepare curriculum content for training daysReview any learner prerequisite or course assignmentsPrepare training rooms as necessary for training (room set up, computer/projector set up, etc.)Training of Trainers/Feedback/Coaching (5%)Work with the PACC and/or PLX Coordinators in Training of Trainers (TOT) sessionsActively participate in feedback and coaching sessions with PACC and/or PLX CoordinatorsActively incorporate recommendations and feedback from coaching sessions
Qualifications
Required QualificationsBachelors degree in Social Work or related degree, with five years of professional experience and three or more years of training experienceKnowledge, skills and ability to integrate culture and diversity into classroom facilitationAbility to effectively engage the various learning styles of classroom participantsSkill in receiving and incorporating feedback and coachingStrong and timely communication skillsStrong skill in collaborationPreferred QualificationsMSW or related degree, with three years of professional experience and three or more years of training experienceClassroom training of teachingExtensive knowledge of child welfare and Child & Family services in MinnesotaExperience with Microsoft Office applications and current classroom technology

Center OverviewThe Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW) was established in 1992 with federal Title IV-E funding and a grant from the Bush Foundation. The Center brings the University of Minnesota together with county, tribal, state and community social services in a partnership dedicated to improving the lives of children and families involved with public child welfare. Substantial funding for the Center continues to come from federal Title IV-E funds and support from the University of Minnesota, the College of Education and Human Development and the School of Social Work.
