The City of Pasadena is looking for experienced, solution-oriented Planners to join the Current Planning Section of the Planning and Community Development Department.
The Current Planning Section’s immediate work program includes reviewing land use projects for ensuring compliance with local and State regulations, and providing Zoning Code and procedural guidance to internal and external customers.
The ideal candidate is an effective problem-solver who combines technical expertise with excellent communication skills.

Performs professional planning work including the preparation of requests for proposal, selection and monitoring of consultants. Researches, collects and analyzes data; prepares reports and presents recommendations on land use, zoning, design, historic preservation, transit, population, housing, social, economic and other related factors. Conducts a variety of assignments involving current or design and historic preservation planning projects; confers with applicants and agency representatives to identify solutions; evaluates data and proposes methods to resolve conflicting issues of plan implementation, zoning requirements, and environmental impact. Prepares legal notices and property descriptions; reviews for completeness and legality advertising notices. Responds to inquiries, both orally and in writing; applies planning policies, state laws and local ordinances, or explains procedures; provides assistance to the Planning Commission, City Council, and other committees and commissions; makes presentations to the City Council, City Commissions, committees, residents and neighborhood groups. Evaluates current development projects by detailed review of plans for architectural, zoning and general plan requirements; performs field surveys to identify problems and upon completion of projects to ensure conformance with applicable requirements; discusses recommendations with builders, developers, architects, and real estate professionals. Contributes to the review and revision of local ordinances; conducts research; prepares or supervises the preparation of complex planning reports including staff reports, CEQA documents and special studies. May have lead supervision over interns, professionals, and technicians. COMPETENCIES

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in planning, architecture, geography, public administration, or a closely related field; and Two years of experience equivalent to that of an Associate Planner with the City of Pasadena. Desirable Qualifications: At least three years of professional work related to CEQA clearance.
SELECTION PROCESS The selection process will consist of a training and experience evaluation, interview panel, and department interviews.
VACANCY INFORMATION There are currently two vacancies in the Current Planning Section of the Planning and Community Development Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future. Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one-year probationary work period. Possession of or ability to obtain a Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record may be required for some assignments.
