Reporting to the Dean of Student Achievement and Success, the Director of the Office of Academic Skills (OAS) plans, administers, and coordinates academic support services and programs including OAS peer tutoring, course mentoring, academic support, and disability services.Salary Range:

$67,000-$72,000Essential Functions:Disability Services (10%)

Provide high-level support and vision for disability access and support.Ensure that students with disabilities receive necessary disability services, reasonable accommodations, and access to all academic and residential programs.Consult with faculty and staff, including advisors and student affairs, to address academic support issues and needs.Serve as 504 Coordinator.

Tutoring and Academic Support Programs (70%)

Plan, coordinate, and evaluate peer tutoring and course mentoring, including recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of OAS tutors and mentors, and tracking and reporting outcomes.Coordinate training and the use of online scheduling software in collaboration with other academic resource offices - Quantitative Skills and Writing Centers.Develop and coordinate academic skills seminars and presentations for students, student groups, and academic courses, e.g., student-athletes, Greek Life, and First Year Seminar courses.Collaborate with Dean's Office and other administrators across campus to plan, coordinate, and evaluate student success and retention programs, including academic recovery for at-risk students and students on academic probation.

Individual Student Meetings (10%)

Provide individualized academic support services to students, and take referrals from faculty and staff regarding students who may be struggling academically.

Management Responsibilities (10%)

Supervise and mentor Disability Access Specialist, Academic Resources Coordinator, and student workers (tutors, course mentors, and office assistants).Oversee and provide the vision for all office operations, programs, and services including disability access, tutoring, academic skills enrichment, and academic recovery.Manage office budgets and student payroll.Maintain relevant records and documents for programs and services.Maintain continuing assessment plan, including relevant data analysis for all programs.

Design, monitor, and evaluate procedures for gathering data, tracking, and reporting for all programs and services; publish appropriate data and reports, including the annual report.Additional Responsibilities:Promote the Office of Academic Skills and its services to all students and faculty.Meet prospective and newly admitted students and their parents during campus visits, including some weekends (i.e., Open Houses, Summer Advising, Fall Family Weekend, etc.).Assist professional staff in providing disabilities services, i.e., extended time testing when necessary.Serve on campus committees as assigned, e.g., Academic Resources Committee.Other tasks as required.Organizational Relationships:Reports to the Dean of Student Achievement and Success.Working Conditions/Hazards:Indoors in a climate-controlled environment.Work Schedule/Hours:Eleven-month schedule: 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM.Occasional evening or weekend hours with adjusted day schedule as needed for special events.Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience:Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Education, Student Development, or related field.Experience with disability service.Three to five years of previous experience in academic and student support services.Demonstrate knowledge of tutoring techniques, student development theories, and academic support best practices.Preferred Experiences:Experience in selecting, training, and supervising professional and student staff.Experience with administrative and assistive technology, e.g., MS Office 365, student database software programs.Personal Characteristics:Excellent organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail and ability to multi-task.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Demonstrated self-starter, comfortable working independently and as part of a team.Critical thinking and proactive problem solving.Patience and desire to assist students at all levels.Able to work occasionally on a flexible schedule.
