Summary:
Graphic artists process and analyze data and — working collaboratively — conceive and create information graphics for print and electronic media.
What you will do:
Work with editors, reporters and designers on how best to visualize stories using data, diagrams, maps and illustrations for a story
Create data analysis and information graphics using newsroom and journalism standards
Work with fellow graphic artists in policing Datawrapper graphics produced by editors and reporters and revising them as needed to ensure they conform to newsroom style
Work with fellow graphic artists to create, distribute, manage and archive data and information graphic content
Manage multiple projects and remain flexible through multiple revisions while closely paying attention to detail
Manage projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift quickly
What you will bring:
Strong portfolio of information graphics, data analysis and illustration work
Strong understanding of data analysis, information graphics and illustration
Ability to code using HTML, Javascript or similar
Proficiency in data entry and processing numerical data for analysis using spreadsheets and statistical software
Strong computer and software technical skills with a focus on data analysis and visualization
Ability to make deadlines and collaborate and communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and the newsroom
Command of the fundamentals of journalism: fairness, accuracy, accessibility
Excellent news judgment, a sense of fairness, diversity and attention to detail
Solid grasp of proper grammar, spelling, punctuation and AP style
Ability to make independent news judgments, initiate coverage and make own schedule
Enthusiasm for digital and community journalism
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on journalism and/or data visualization
The hourly wage is $29.52. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
