Responsibilities : Under the direction of the pastor(s), implement the Session approved music ministry, including but not necessarily limited to the following:Assist the pastor(s) in leading congregational singing; encourage greater participation that will enhance the volume of our singing; foster a growing knowledge of a diverse number and range of tunes, in order that the congregation may be able to sing a rich spectrum of our Christian history and heritage.Supervise the work of both employed and volunteer musicians, including assisting in an annual review of the employed musicians with the pastor(s).Assist in teaching the congregation new approved Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs settings.Choose well-known and loved Psalms, Bible Songs, and Hymns, and select, teach, and lead new approved Psalms, Bible Songs, Hymns, choir anthems, and specials to be incorporated into the worship services. Approval is to be obtained through the Session.Choose, teach, and lead approved handbell choir pieces occasionally incorporated in the worship services.Seek, develop, and direct instrumentalists, soloists, and ensembles to participate regularly in corporate worship services.Assist the pastor(s), when requested, in the planning of worship services (e.g., assistance in determining whether certain hymn tunes are singable and/or known, etc.).Participate and assist in special services and ministries such as weddings, funerals, VBS, etc., as needed.Develop a plan of implementing a children’s music ministry in conjunction with the Discipleship committee.Provide the Administrative Assistant musical information needed in the weekly preparation of bulletins and congregational communications.Plan, teach, and direct any annual or occasional special musical service(s) by HARP choirs, ensembles, vocalists, and/or musicians. Propose and coordinate any special concerts in conjunction with the outreach committee and/or discipleship committee.Seek and develop assistants who can lead in your absence.Plan and lead regular and special rehearsals as needed for the musical ministry of the congregation working with the other ministry leaders of the congregation to prevent scheduling conflicts. Such rehearsals should be opened and concluded with prayer, mindful that there is a shepherding component to your work.Provide oversight of equipment maintenance to include bell cleaning and repair, choir robe cleaning, piano tuning, and organ maintenance.Attend and participate in regular and as needed staff meetings.Participate in planning and schedule meetings as necessary/requested.Attend Session meetings when requested for feedback and discussion of musical direction, etc.Attend, if desired, approved worship and musical conferences and/or courses.Work in coordination with area ARP congregations in the preparation and musical leadership of any Session-approved joint services as needed.Provide an annual report of your work and plans for the coming year and participate in an annual Session-led review of your work and the provisions of this position.Provide accompaniment to the choir and worship service music as needed.Position Qualifications:

Membership in good standing in a Reformed and Evangelical Church and a willingness for you and your family’s membership to be transferred to HARP coming under the care of the HARP Session.A commitment to the Reformed Faith as expressed in the standards of the ARP Church and its thoughtful application in the corporate worship life of the congregation.Preferably 5 years of experience in directing church choirs.Passing a background check.Application Deadline
