Under the direction of the Principal, the Dean of Instruction will focus on supporting teachers and instructional leaders to deliver the best academic experience for our scholars. S/he will conduct observations and provide feedback, utilize data-driven instruction, curriculum and assessment, and professional development. In conjunction with the Principals, the Dean of Instruction (DOI) will implement a professional development program to guide assigned instructional staff members in becoming master teachers.Essential Responsibilities and CompetenciesData Driven InstructionFacilitate assessment cycles including scheduling, quality assurance of assessment materials, and teacher/scholar preparation with the support of school leadershipConduct deep analysis of data in order to lead effective analysis meetings with teachers in content areasGuide and support Teachers in creating grade level or content area action plans and materials to address dataExecute data meetings based on daily scholar work samples and monitor grade-level progressPlan the instructional and curriculum schedule in partnership with principals and network support team based on school-specific data and resultsEnsure that systematic interventions occur whenever scholars are struggling; monitor quality and effectiveness of interventions to ensure they are rigorous, disciplined, and high-impactWrite thorough, thoughtful, actionable annual growth plans for all the teachers in your portfolioOwn organization-wide curriculum and assessment work based on content expertise such as lesson planning, assessment revisions and review, collaborative scoring, and/or network analysisEffectively plan both full units and individual lessons with teachers, guiding them through the entire backwards planning processObservation and FeedbackConduct daily observations and plan/execute feedback meetings that lead to teacher and instructional leader development and support implementation of action stepsProvide real-time feedback to teachers during instructionIdentify clear learning goals for teachers, create and execute on development plans using a range of coaching strategies to improve teacher effectivenessObserve lessons and provide ongoing, specific, actionable, positive and constructive feedback that ensures teachers can implement the feedback to grow in instructional planning and delivery and foster a feeling of shared vision and goalsContribute to teachers’ mid-year reviewsProfessional DevelopmentPlan and deliver high-quality professional development that trains and orients staff members in curricular systems and key pedagogical issuesPlan and execute team meetings for grade-level or content-area staffAccurately identify and prioritize professional development needs through careful analysis of scholar dataDemonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds and lives of scholars in and out of schoolBuild professional relationships with teachers that help in their developmentCollaborate with the campus-wide and network-wide staff to maximize the ability of our schools to support scholars’ academic and socioemotional developmentReinforce the mission with staff and inspire them to act on the mission every single day; exude urgency, excellence, and optimismLive and act as a biblical role model and Open Sky Education representative in your life for our scholars, team members and community.Agree to comply at all times with our Code of Conduct and Statement of Faith.Agree to engage in the faith life of our scholars and in collaboration with other team membersPerform other duties as requested or requiredQualificationsBachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferredAt least three years of teacher experience with exceptional results, strong instructional skills, and strong classroom management skillsKnowledge of essential content, standards, and highly effective teaching strategies in elementary and middle school gradesPrevious experience in coaching new and experienced teachersExperience working with youth and families in low income urban communitiesStrong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and OutlookExperience with school teaching platforms and technology for virtual learningValid teaching credential or certificationPersonal QualitiesIntegrity, credibility, and passionate commitment to HOPE’s mission of Christ, College, and CharacterProactive and hands-on strategic thinker who enjoys tackling challenges and overcoming obstaclesFocus on a systems-oriented approach to student, classroom, and school cultureStrong organization, planning, and time management skillsAbility to simultaneously lead multiple projectsStrong relationship building, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skillsCommitment to loving our scholars, an unwavering belief that all children can and must succeed, and a deep passion for developing the character of a serving leader in every childDriven by a passion for ensuring every scholar has an excellent educationAn individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
