$46.18 per hourSummaryThe Engine Mechanic/Watch Engineer Relief Staff person is primarily responsible for providing coverage to open shifts, planned vacations and possible medical leaves. This position is responsible for the maintenance of all equipment in the central utility plant ensuring the clean, safe, and reliable operation of the equipment, including the boiler plant, chiller plant and the peaker plant. The Engine Mechanic/Watch Engineer Relief Staff will perform maintenance on campus emergency generators and must ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations concerning the operation, maintenance, and record keeping.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesCover all planned vacations for the four watch engineers.Responsible for all general repairs of the chill water plant equipment, primarily electrical centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, and associated equipment.Responsible for all general repairs of all boiler room equipment, such as high pressure steam boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, air compressors, water treatment systems, fans, motors and associated equipment.Responsible for all general repairs & operation of a gas fired peaker plant, including starting, stopping and synchronizing.Involved with the preparations to prepare power plant equipment for annual inspections and put back into service.Oversee and assist in any work performed by outside contractors on campus.May be required to work unusual hours, weekends and holidays to cover various watches and perform maintenance as directed by the chief engineer or designee.RequirementsMust have a valid driver’s license.High school diploma or GED and (5) years of experience with campus-related maintenance.Third Class Engineers License or higher issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.Prior experience working in a Work Order Management system, particularly with a Preventative Maintenance module preferred.Previous knowledge of a Time Management System (Workday) is preferred.Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and manuals is critical.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak English effectively to faculty, staff, students and visitors.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely and relay instructions and directions to others.This employee must have sound, independent judgment and skills to deal with problems involving several variables in standard situations. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
