SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The essential function of the position within the organization is to perform semi-skilled work in the operation of light, medium and large trucks, trailers, tractor trailers, and other related equipment to pick-up and deliver materials and equipment necessary for various assignments. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of a vehicle and for conducting routine preventive maintenance checks. Work is performed under the direct supervision and is reviewed for compliance with specific work instructions, safety and rules and regulations.
Essential Job Functions1. Drive light, medium, and large trucks, with or without trailers, and tractor trailers to deliver materials and equipment to District work locations on assigned route. Checks truck’s equipment and supplies to assure road worthiness.2. Loads and unloads trucks at designated stops; maintains records of items delivered, damaged or return.3. Transports crew, materials and equipment to job sites; assists labor crews with assigned tasks on various maintenance, landscape, or roadway construction/maintenance projects. 4. Transports asphalt, soil, shrubs and trimmings to job site(s) or to point of disposal.5. Operates tractors with attachments used for mowing, spreading fertilizer and sweeping/aerating /spraying lawns and grass fields.6. Notify supervisor of currently needed or anticipated equipment repairs.7. Drives and operates pumper truck to extract/siphon effluent, stagnant water or other substances from tanks or natural holding areas; transports same to an environmentally approved discharge area.8. Checks truck equipment and supplies to assure roadworthiness.9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsRequires high school diploma or a GED and one of the following valid state Commercial Driver’s Licenses:
Class A -- Any combination of vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds provided the GVWR of the vehicle(s) being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds
Class B -- Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing a vehicle not in excess of 10,000 pounds GVWR
Class C -- Any single vehicle, or combination of vehicles, that does not meet the definition of Class A or Class B, but is either designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver, or is placarded for hazardous materials
Degree Equivalency Formula:Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
