Description
Reporting to the President/CEO of Bayley, the Development Director is responsible for raising current and deferred gifts. This position is responsible to develop, create and implement strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of major gift prospects. This position is also responsible for identifying and securing all forms of development resources.
1. Maintains and supports overall philosophy, goals, and objectives of Bayley Senior Care.
2. Responsible for the general morale of all staff. Provides a quality work environment through teaming principles, effective team leadership, and a demonstrated positive attitude. Participates and / or approves the hiring, discipline, development, and evaluation of personnel.
3. Proactive in the development, maintenance and updating of policies and procedures relating to the Development department functions.
4. Prepares and implements annual operating budget necessary to support proposed development programs and development department.
5. Plans and implements the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects by managing a portfolio of potential major gift donors focusing on current gifts of $5000 and above and deferred and estate gifts.
6. Team with key volunteers, President/CEO, and Administration staff in managing the fundraising process. Follow appropriate gift processing guidelines.
7. Serves on and facilitates the Development Committee in conjunction with the President/CEO and Chair.
8. Oversees and works closely with Administrative Assistant(s) of Development department.
9. Prepares and reports a strategy for each assigned major gift prospect, for that month, including purpose, amount, timing and method of solicitation.
10. Uses the move management system including developing and maintaining annual moves form.
11. Submits/enters data to ensure appropriate prospect and donor information is tracked, and kept current through Razer's Edge system; develops reports for CEO and specified committees.
12. Prepares Charitable Giving Annuity illustration in working with planned giving prospects/donors.
13. Oversees Mother Margaret George Memorial Society committee and related events.
14. Responsible for research, writing and submission of grants.
15. Oversees annual support mailings through direct letters of appeal and mail house distribution.
16. Provides input to marketing department in the development of public relations materials and publications related to various fundraising efforts.
17. Fosters, develops and maintains positive and effective relationships with marketing staff, board members, local retirement community leaders, residents, members and their families. Attends Board meetings, Village Resident meetings and other committees as assigned.
18. Serves on community and professional associations that are in support of the actions and mission of Bayley.
19. Adheres to federal, state, and local government laws and regulations that govern many of the gift related decisions; particularly those regulations pertaining to charitable solicitations and fundraising administration.
Performs other duties as requested or assigned.
Requirements
REQUIRED
Bachelor's Degree with emphasis on communications, marketing, philanthropy or related field.Excellent written and oral communications skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office.Five years experience in direct fundraising.Experience in soliciting major donors required.
PREFERRED
• Graduate degree or equivalent background preferred.
• Member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals preferred.
• Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred.
• Knowledge of Razer's Edge or equivalent software.
• Experience with campaigns (endowment, capital, etc.)
• Three to five years previous management experience.
• At least three years in planned giving.
