The position is responsible for resolving escalated issues and tasks which requires the additional education, training and experience outlined in this job description. The Senior Histotechnologist provides support to the department in the areas of quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, and the completion of special projects.Performs all of the duties/responsibilities of a Histotechnologist II.Serve as a technical specialist in the routine histopathology laboratory, special stain or IHC areas.Provide technical instructions, training and guidance to technicians/technologists, students and lab assistants in techniques and instrumentation.Assist supervisor in maintaining and troubleshooting equipment/instrumentation.Manage the validation and/or verification of control material, reagents and antibodies as assigned.Participate in equipment/method validation/verification as assigned.Manage the quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) functions in area(s) of responsibility as assigned.Investigate unacceptable results (i.e., processing or stain performance).May be assigned to lead special projects.Participate in the completion and review of proficiency testing (PT) surveys.Perform specimen preparation on non-gynecological specimens, including cytopreparation, staining, coverslipping, etc. after completing training on non-gynecological specimen types. This includes specimen preparation of Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) specimens.Adhere to laboratory's QC policies, and document all QC activities; has the ability to recognize outliers and correct them.Differentiate acceptable and unacceptable processing, embedding, cutting and staining of tissue specimens.Capable of identifying problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results and resolve or immediately report to histology supervisor, technical supervisor, or laboratory director.Assist supervisor with facilitation of departmental training, competency assessments and continuing education in area(s) of responsibility.Participate in the development of policies/procedures in area(s) of responsibility.Ensure all corporate safety, QC and QA standards are met.Ensure compliance with all CLIA, CAP, federal and local regulations.Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.QUALIFICATIONSRequired Work Experience:

3 years histopathology experience within a Quest Diagnostics, AmeriPath or Dermpath Diagnostics laboratory.Preferred Work Experience:

6 years of histopathology experience, with 3 years in IHC or surgical pathology within a Quest Diagnostics, AmeriPath or Dermpath Diagnostics laboratory.Physical and Mental Requirements:
