www.ucihealth.org .Your Role on the TeamPosition Summary:Under supervision, performs the full range of duties from specimen procurement through specimen and/or blood/blood component processing/handling and performs a wide variety of repetitive technical procedures and/or standardized tests according to established protocols. Assists in equipment maintenance, quality control, allocation/issuing products such as blood/blood components and tissue for transfusion medicine, inventory control, and performs all clerical functions including but not limited to data entry, maintaining records, answering phones and providing results.Essential Job Functions:The identification of essential functions below is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties that may be assigned to this position, nor does it restrict the duties which may be assigned to this position if such duties reasonably relate to the position.Under supervision, performs the full range of duties including but not limited to specimen procurement, all preanalytical processes, or transfusion medicine processes including blood/blood component processing, allocation, tissue dispensing, handling and storage. Performs a wide variety of repetitive technical procedures and standardized tests according to established protocols using appropriate techniques. 50%Performs all clerical functions including but not limited to data entry, maintaining records, dispensing tissue and blood products, answering phones, resolving preanalytical specimen issues and providing information and results. 20%Participates in monitoring workflow and helps maintain compliance with all policies, procedures and regulatory agency requirements. As appropriate, assists in the training of new staff, co-workers and students. 10%Participates in a full range of quality assurance and compliance functions including equipment maintenance, quality control, inventory control, order verification, specimen acceptability. 20%What It Takes to be SuccessfulRequired Qualifications:One year clinical laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experienceMust possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned dutiesMust demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the jobMust be willing to provide weekend and holiday coverage on a rotational basis and variable shift assignment(s) as neededGood communication skillsAbility to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workloadAbility to establish & maintain effective working relationships across the Health SystemPreferred Qualifications:Minimum 16 units of applicable Science (such as Chemistry, Biology) and Algebra at the college levelGood computer skills including knowledge of various software applicationsConditions of Employment:The University of California, Irvine (UCI) seeks to provide a safe and healthy environment for the entire UCI community.
