About the Department

The Initiative on Enabling Choice and Competition in Healthcare, along with The Program on Foundational Research, develops and supports faculty researchers advancing fundamental economic research in the healthcare sector by merging economic theory with empirical analysis. Our mission is to create a unique platform for innovative research addressing fundamental issues in healthcare economics by creating a community of on-campus and visiting researchers who are inspiring new ideas and undertaking novel approaches to understanding healthcare markets.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Leadership Professors, Casey Mulligan and Tomas Philipson, the Center Director will be in charge of all administrative and program operations of these two programs and manage their relationships with all relevant partners and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have exceptionally strong project management, administration, communications, and leadership skills, as well as previous experience working with faculty, university administration and staff. The candidate must enjoy independent problem-solving and thrive on taking high-level directional advice.

Responsibilities

Oversee all financial activity and management, including budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting. Responsible for all fundraising proposals, donor management, and grants. Manages program budgets and recommends or makes budgetary recommendations.

Manage program and administrative functions including planning and scheduling, program evaluation, policy implementation, personnel recruitment, and administration, marketing, fundraising, and proposal development. Develop strategic priorities and operational plans for the Initiative.

Lead the development of all internal and external communications materials, such as annual reports, letters to donors, and website content, and coordinate with staff from other university departments as needed. Represent the initiative to multiple constituents, including University leadership and administrative units, external partners, philanthropic organizations, and individual donors.

Lead the day-to-day operations of the Initiative including coordinating program events, conferences, visitors, student affairs, faculty, and staff support. Initiate and coordinate visas. Provides support and oversight for research teams and ensures university compliance of policies and procedures.

Participate in the recruitment, onboarding and training of staff. Provide leadership and direction to other team members. Supervise and evaluate research staff and student employee workloads.

Manage and approve staff and student employee hours and attendance.

Uses in-depth knowledge and experience to administer the delivery of services to program participants and/or beneficiaries such as communicating with programs sponsors and academic advising for undergraduate students.

Has a deep understanding when interacting with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information.

Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in economics; Master's degree in higher education administration, economics, business, or public policy.

Experience:

Experience working in university administration, including program development, project management, event planning, directing operations, administration, supervision, donor relations, communications, and professional editing.

Preferred Competencies
