Summary
The Municipal Bonds Trader works closely with the retail sales force and other retail traders to provide routine administrative support and assistance. This position will perform duties associated with municipal trading, such as watching messenger, organizing and assisting with customer inquiries, processing transactions, and preparing various communications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Respond to retail sales inquiries and research questions and resolve problems promptly and efficiently.
• Responsible for determining bond values and providing information for bidding retail customer bids wanted lists.
• Responsible for managing customer municipal bond evaluation requests, including determining offering price, appropriate sales credits on bonds within their inventory, and determining whether or not to bid based on the correct market price for bonds.
• Responsible for posting salespeople on the various trades and post-market data as it becomes available.
• Ensure municipal offerings are accurately posted on the Electronic Communication Network (ECN).
• Monitor market conditions regarding interest rate movements and credit changes and advise retail brokers.
• Generate sales ideas by evaluating municipal offerings from other broker-dealers and selecting the most appropriate to market to the retail sales forces.
Qualifications
• Ability to fill retail sales inquiries, bid retail sales' bid wanted lists on ECN (Bondworks), and attend to retail sales' various needs.
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to promptly identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or problem approaches.
• Able to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one promptly.
• Able to communicate information and ideas in spoken or written form so that others will understand.
• Able to Manage one's own time and priorities to ensure the meeting of deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal and marketing skills. Ability to multi-task.
Education and Experience
• Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related field or equivalent years of experience.
• Minimum Required: 1-3 years of financial services industry or related experience.
Licenses and Credentials
• Minimum Required: FINRA Series 7 and Series 63 required or obtained within six months of hire.
Systems and Technology
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
