BRIEF JOB SUMMARY

The Development Associate (DA) provides professional support toassigned colleges, schools, and units (CSUs) to help meetfundraising objectives. Working directly with the Senior/ExecutiveDirectors of Development (S/EDOD) and front-line developmentofficers, the DA assists with the qualification, cultivation,solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospects. The DA workscollaboratively across UIC Advancement and assigned CSUs. Theyserve as a front-line representative of the university, interactingwith volunteers, donors, and key leadership. This position servesas a learning and training experience, structured to grow thetalent of the DA such that after two to three years, they areprepared to be competitive as candidates for assistant director ofdevelopment positions with leadership annual gift and low-end majorgift portfolios.

Duties and Responsibilities

Facilitates, organizes, and executes fundraising activities toensure development officers maintain an outward focus on buildingrelationships, advancing giving strategies, closing gifts, andmeeting annual fundraising goals.

Assists with drafting, editing and proof-readingcorrespondence, reports, proposals, and briefings to be used in thequalification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors,prospects, and alumni.

Arranges meetings with faculty, staff, donors, prospects, andothers as requested by the S/EDOD and the Assistant Vice Chancellorfor Advancement (AVC).

Gathers, researches, synthesizes, and analyzes data andinformation to prepare concise, logical summaries and reportsacross a variety of topics that may be presented to donors,prospects, or internal teams.

Utilizes the constituent tracking database (TED) to look up andensure accuracy of donor and alumni information, request research,pull canned reports, update prospect plans, etc.

Assists with the gift process by tracking solicitations, giftagreements, completing gift transmittal forms for gifts received,forwarding gifts, and completed forms for gift processing andensuring revenue is associated with ask in TED.

Participates in portfolio reviews with fundraisers and theResearch and Prospect Development teams. Responsible for ensuringportfolios are updated and accurate.

In partnership with the central Stewardship team, responsiblefor reviewing weekly gift report and ensuring donors at leadershipand major gift levels are thanked.

Serves as liaison between the S/EDODs and OVCA centralleads.

Perform other related duties and participate in specialprojects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent.

One year of professional work experience.

Commitment to mission of UIC.

Understanding and practice of a high standard ofconfidentiality and ethical information collection.

Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communicationskills

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference for work experience in development/fundraisingenvironment.
