The Bourns College of Engineering Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT) invites applications for a highly skilled and ambitious Emissions and Fuels Research Laboratory Manager to lead our Emissions and Fuels Research (EFR) group. CE-CERT's EFR group stands at the forefront of emissions research, focusing on diverse combustion sources, including vehicles, trucks, generators, marine vessels, locomotives, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, and cooking appliances.Position Overview:We are looking for an experienced and motivated Emissions and Fuels Research Laboratory Manager to lead our Emissions and Fuels Research (EFR) group. In this role, you will oversee research staff and laboratory operations, ensuring that research objectives are met with the highest standards of quality and compliance. You will play a pivotal role in supervising and mentoring team members, managing daily lab operations, and driving the strategic planning and execution of advanced research projects. Additionally, you will provide technical oversight of lab equipment, coordinate logistics for research activities, and contribute innovative ideas to enhance research development.The full salary range for the Emissions and Fuels Research Laboratory Manager is $90,400 - $169,000 annually. However, the pay scale for this position is up to $129,700 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.Requirements:Educational RequirementsBachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

RequiredThis position is designated as a Mandated Reporter and will be required to complete trainings and comply with CANRA.

RequiredMinimum RequirementsAcademic knowledge and skills dependent on area of specialty (laboratory research or instructional/experimental design). Advanced and highly specific knowledge and expertise associated with conducting and reporting on scientific research experiments and findings.Advanced knowledge of a wide variety of specialized laboratory equipment.Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility, anticipates and effectively handles change.Ability to organize division operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving processes, procedures, and systems.Advanced knowledge of research discipline or instructional design to collaborate effectively with faculty and function as a resource to research and instructional associates.Proven analytical abilities and problem-solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify options for resolution. Demonstrates sound judgement.Advanced interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff.Solid knowledge of data acquisition and analysis techniques.Strong abilities to conduct and report on scientific experiments and findings.Advanced knowledge of necessary lab safety procedures and requirements, as well as chemical or biological disposal guidelines.Preferred QualificationsLeadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others. Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships.Advanced interpersonal communication skills to effectively supervise staff.Key Responsibilities:Manages research staff and laboratory research experiments to achieve research objective, quality and timeline requirements.Manages daily operations of laboratory to ensure compliance, consistency, and effective collaborations.Develops short and long range plans for management and utilization of the laboratory.Manages lab, including but not limited to breeding colony, environmental and facilities, adhering to research protocol and compliance according to UC, state/federal compliance.Provides consultation to PI and research associates on project designs, budget, study conduct, and protocols.Manages laboratory fiscal, material and human resources within department budget.In collaboration with PI, oversees research project review, including laboratory and budget requirements in preparation for grant submissions.Manages customer service and quality services to researchers to support PI's research needs.Performs state-of-the-art, complex research projects or instructional experimental design in collaboration with academic supervisors.Contributes significant original/innovative ideas of major methodological significance to the development of research or experiments and instruction.Writes articles for publication in scientific journals or for presentations at conferences or symposiums.To apply, visit
