Materials Technician - Engineering

IRISNDT has an opening for a full time materials technologist based out our Houston office with competitive pay and full benefits. The successful candidate will complete both laboratory and field duties as required by our customers. This involves completing tasks in support of failure analysis, including but not limited to:• Photography of samples in the laboratory and locations at sites• Preparation of metallographic samples for analysis• Conducting mechanical and metallurgical analysis tests• Carrying out chemical analysis using OES, XRF, and LIBS techniques• Performing corrosion tests• Preparing reports with the results of all performed tests (mechanical, metallographic, chemical and corrosion tests)• Completion of Field Metallographic Replication (FMR) at customer sites• Other duties as directed by company staff

Education and Experience:• Diploma / Degree in Materials Engineering Technology, Welding, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related post-secondary education with commiserate professional experience.• 3 - 5 years' experience. Candidates with experience working in a plant/refinery setting and/or in heavy industry (Mining, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical) are preferred.• Professional memberships, certifications, or affiliations (API, NACE, ASM, AWS) are considered an asset.

Physical Requirements:• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer,• Some operation of hand tools and machinery (e.g. angle grinder, band saw, plasma cutter, polishing wheel, etc.)• Manipulation and/or lifting of heavy or awkward components (≤ 50 lb),• Occasional outdoor/site work may be required with exposure to heat, cold, rain, uneven terrain, etc. and restricted access requiring the use of ladders, stairs, or platforms.

Required Skills and Experience:• Valid TWIC card (or eligibility for TWIC card) required;• Valid Driver's License and pre-access drug and alcohol testing required;• Pre-employment background checks will be required;• Comfort and experience operating hand-held tools and equipment, including angle grinders, plasma cutters, band saws, etc.• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, etc.• Comfort with image processing software• Knowledge of materials and processes considered an asset;• Prior experience on oil & gas and/or petrochemical facilities considered an asset;• NDT certifications considered an asset.
