The Supervising Attorney provides legal services including direct representation to eligible clients in immigration matters in accordance with program guidelines and priorities, standards of practice, and the Code of Professional Responsibility. The Supervising Attorney is accountable for hiring, training, and overseeing the work of Senior/Staff Attorneys, DOJ Accredited Representatives, Paralegals, Legal Fellows/Interns/Volunteers and Pro Bono Attorneys. The Supervising Attorney ensures compliance with current funding contracts as to the provision of legal services to eligible noncitizens.Who are we?Ascentria Care Alliance is a nonprofit organization that has spent the past 150 years helping people in need. We empower people of all backgrounds to rise together and reach beyond life’s challenges by building stronger communities and helping people move forward together.Essential Responsibilities:Supervise Senior Attorneys, Staff Attorneys, DOJ Accredited Representatives, and Paralegals, including bi-weekly case review and intake review meetings.Manage Legal Fellows/Interns/Volunteers in coordination with Senior/Staff Attorneys.Possess sufficient experience to work independently, and to handle an individual caseload while supervising staff and managing other significant management responsibilities.Train and oversee case assignments of Senior/Staff Attorneys, DOJ Accredited Representatives and Paralegals.Provide representation and legal advice to clients in removal proceedings.Represent clients on a variety of immigration issues in front of USCIS and MA Family/Probate court, and other courts, agencies, and venues as needed.Track client cases and progress of applications.In partnership with Director, calendar and set the agenda for regular legal team case rounds.In partnership with the Director and other senior leaders, ensure compliance with current funding contract(s) as to the provision of legal services.In partnership with Director and other senior leaders, ensure project/department milestones and goals are met by adhering to approved budgets.Report on outcomes and demographic information for grants.In partnership with Director, support fiscal and administrative service delivery flow.Seek and develop opportunities for training on relevant issue areas to further professional development of legal staff.Seek and develop team building and other staff retention measures. Provides coaching, counseling, leadership, performance feedback, and, where appropriate, applies discipline to and through subordinates.Routinely reports to the Director regarding issues related to the provision of legal services. Develops strategies to address challenges.Maintain and develop materials and documents for support of the legal staff.Recruit

pro bono

attorneys, and provide mentorship and support to attorneys accepting referrals from ILAP. In partnership with Director and other senior leaders, create

pro-bono

resources and conduct quarterly trainings.Engage in outreach and development with community partners and stakeholders.Conduct outreach and educational events, including “know your rights” presentations.Must be familiar with conducting virtual meetings, training, and observations on software such as Teams, Zoom, etc.Perform other related duties as assigned.Qualifications/Requirements:Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.Licensed and in good standing to practice law in the state of Massachusetts or ability to obtain Massachusetts license required. Must be barred in at least one state.Minimum 5-7 years of experience practicing immigration law required.Post-JD experience in immigration law and/or family law preferred.Minimum 2-3 years of managing staff and programs required.Ability to speak, understand, read and write in Spanish strongly preferred.Experience with Cerenade or similar immigration software.Data entry and reporting with software.Exceptional oral and written communication skills.Demonstrated commitment to public service, particularly to children’s issues and/or immigration.Company BenefitsMedicalDentalVisionFSA and dependent care account3 Weeks PTO and 9 Holidays!Tuition AssistanceAnd many more!Ascentria Care Alliance celebrates diversity and is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
