Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost LLP, California's leading education law firm, is seeking a hands-on, dedicated, and experienced Controller to oversee all accounting operations, including billing, financial statements, budgeting, tax compliance, and more. This key role involves safeguarding the Firm's assets, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement. The Controller will work closely with attorneys, staff, and senior administration to support the Firm's financial health and strategic goals. The role is hybrid, requiring 1-2 days of in-office presence per week.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Actively manage the daily accounting operations: billing, financial statements, accounts payable/receivable, budgeting, and tax compliance.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and oversee revenue recognition processes.
  • Ensure timely preparation of financial statements and compliance with tax regulations.
  • Establish and enforce internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure proper accounting.
  • Conduct financial analyses to support business decisions and approve Firm-related purchases and expenses.
  • Provide guidance to staff and handle escalated issues.
  • Play a key role in decision-making by providing financial insights and recommendations to senior management.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience in managing accounting operations with strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and strong communication skills.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory roles, preferably in a legal or professional services firm.

Pay Range: $150,000 - $180,000 per year
